The dame swam into view like a man with Tourette’s at an award show—awkwardly. I saw her through a whiskey bottle. Metaphorically, but also literally. I needed a cleaning lady. Hell, any lady. The name’s Jack Shot, PI, and yeah, I’d have another. 1/9

Found the key to my mental health. Now, if I could only find the lock.

The value of a cat is that you may toy with it the way it toys with others. This is joy.

Lord God, Father in heaven, Maker of all things, have mercy upon me and hear me! Lord God the Son, Savior of the world, have mercy upon me and hear me! Lord God, the Holy Spirit, the Comforter in all trouble, have mercy upon me and hear me and make supplication within me!

The Augsburg Confession Article VII. Of the Church. Also they teach that one holy Church is to continue forever. The Church is the congregation of saints, in which the Gospel is rightly taught and the Sacraments are rightly administered. And to the true unity of the Church it is enough to agree concerning the doctrine of the Gospel and the administration of the Sacraments. Nor is it necessary that human traditions, that is, rites or ceremonies, instituted by men, should be everywhere alike. As Paul says: One faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of all, etc. Eph. 4:5-6.

The Old Testament gets presented to children as a series of "just-so" stories where the good guys win. The Old Testament is actually a treatise on human nature, the futility of man's attempts to save himself, and ultimately why we are in need of a Savior.

@wrowclif the moment I realized Samson was really pretty terrible and not sunday school Superman it completely opened up the Old Testament for me, its all a giant cautionary tale

"But there are occasions in which there is no difference at all between the priest and those under him; for instance, when we are to partake of the awful mysteries; for we are all alike counted worthy of the same things: not as under the Old Testament [when] the priest ate some things and those under him others, and it was not lawful for the people to partake of those things whereof the priest partook. But not so now, but before all one body is set and one cup." - St. John Chrysostom, Homily XVIII on 2 Corinthians, NPNF First Series, 12: 366.

Fun fact about me: I've often found it weird giving animals human names, which is why I've always called all my cats, "psst or puss-puss," and they come 🗿

I love it. Details: electric cooker, but it's unplugged because we see no wire, I had one, tried it once, blew all the fuses! Or maybe gas? See matches, but still unconnected? No (noticeable) grout between imperfect tiles. Will do that in my kitchen if I ever get to renovate it.

Lucie van Dam van Isselt's still-lifes are a great favourite of mine. She studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague from 1891 and from around this date began painting observational pictures with no frippery. This work is from about 1930.
