You have GOT to watch this! This is easily one of the most skilful and satisfying interviews I have EVER seen. Cathy Newman tries a cheap gotcha and @ZiaYusufUK BEAUTIFULLY turns the tables and exposes her hypocrisy She refused to say white lives matter too Incredible to watch

Uproar on Newsnight. Watch to the end as Laila Cunningham battles a woke panel determined to attack Nigel Farage for calling out the sickness in our justice system - rather than addressing the issue. Laila’s right. It’s crazy. We’re all sick of being shut down in this way. @policylaila @Nigel_Farage

Jonathan is a good man. He has his head on straight and, despite having gone through a modern Labour Party selection process, he has somehow managed to remain in possession of his critical faculties. That makes him a shining diamond in a near solid wall of Labour coal.

Our PM & other George Floyd kneelers are in a quandary. It was easy but unwise to seek the faux virtue they did over the death of a black man 1000s of miles away but it is not quite so easy when a white man is the victim 80 miles away in the nation for which they are responsible.

Sun has set and still 27C in central London it does look foreboding out there, but not even a drop of rain. Balmy summer like evening just an extraordinary heatwave for late spring. One that I will never forget.

Temperatures soaring again this early afternoon we have a rounded 31C in west London. We might have seen 35C but this is still an exceptionally warm temperature for May. Dew points are also higher than we’ve seen so far, more of a humid feel. Models did show a lot of cloud today the forecast seems something of a bust and slower progression of said cloud.

There’s an isolated thunderstorm that’s formed north of Milton Keynes. As there’s clear blue sky around it in all directions, it should be visible from 50-100 miles away. Share a pic if you can see it! Image: @Windycom

@TheSnowDreamer It’s also strange that this spell of hot weather has come when southern Spain and France have also been hot, but not exceptionally so for the time of year. Normally we push the mid 30s only when it’s 40+ over a wide part of the source of this spell of weather.

To add until this exceptional heatwave the only months which had 35C temps was July and August for May to accomplish this before June is utterly wild. This should not be occurring in spring, it tells you just how much our climate has changed. We might not know true extent yet.

Highest May min temperature broken again at Heathrow last night a low of 18.8C, until 2026 the record was 17.4C from May 1989 so now beaten by 1.4C. Of course maximum yesterday of 35C has smashed old 1953 record by 3.3C, never have we broken a monthly record high by such a large margin. When it hit 40.2C in July 2022 it broke all-time record by 2.3C. And 2018 the hottest summer on record in London tied with 2022 we tied the max of 35C. A guide of how exceptional this is in records from 1948 at LHR the following years broke 35C: 1990, 2003, 2006, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2026** Notice something?

@AllisonPearson All that posturing during those Covid briefings. And then killing off New Year 2021 for the Scots, when Omicron posed no threat at all. Must have ruined hospitality at that time.

Why is the media so lenient towards Sturgeon? Viciously judgmental towards Boris while no angel herself. Enjoyed exploiting Covid to score petty political points. Wrong about almost everything. Left Scotland the druggie capital of Europe. But, hey, she’s a progressive heroine!

34.4C the confirmed high at Heathrow with tomorrow expected to be a bit hotter. This now breaks former 1953 record highest May temperature by 2.7C. A very good chance we make more climatic history tomorrow. The June record at this site is 34.8C set on 26 June 1976, I am expecting the June record to be broken and we're in May. Perfectly normal huh?

@TheSnowDreamer The relatively dry ground will aid those temperatures to lift, especially around the sandy soils of Surrey. Places like Wisley should do well.

21 years since London last saw 30C (87F) in month of May, I strongly suspect the timer will reset very soon. Latest UKV challenges as early as this Saturday. A barbecue weekend… It things come together we may see even hotter temperatures next week… record May heat is at play. And summer isn’t here yet.

Why is Starmer seemingly determined to infuse us all with a sense of deep gloom? I refuse to be swept up in his mood of despair. This is a great nation and we will be fine. All we need is some proper leadership by someone with the ability to inspire, champion and enthuse.

@MartinKnight_ I finished my last A level on 30 June 1982 and the next day went by train with school mates to the South of France too. Camped in a campsite near Toulon set in a large canyon a short walk from the beautiful sea. Great days.

@MartinKnight_ Was at an impromptu performance by him in a Piccadilly bookshop for his great friend David Wynne, the sculptor, who was one of my foundry’s clients. Great stuff. Wynne also entertained the Beatles at his house in Wimbledon, and we later cast his sculpture of their heads conjoined

Congratulations to Donovan for making 80 today. Writer of dreamy but memorable songs like Mellow Yellow, Jennifer Jupiter, something about a mountain being there, then it wasn’t. Lyrically he was a mystical Marc Bolan. Mate of the Beatles & married Brian Jones’ former partner.

Can everyone please stop this nonsense about Labour MPs and ministers waiting to hear what @Keir_Starmer says in his big speech at 10am before deciding on his future? Everyone knows that the PM is supremely incapable of delivering a speech with either the content or passion needed to change his political fortunes. If he says "more of the same but we need better messaging", he's toast. If he says "I'm going to change everything", he's admitting he's wasted the last 2 years and he's toast. Most voters won't be listening anyway. And even if they were, and could survive more than 3 minutes of his nasal tones, they won't believe a single word he says. The polls won't change. He's toast.
