Now that Obama’s poll numbers are in tailspin – watch for him to launch a strike in Libya or Iran. He is desperate.

@hayesdev_ Writing code is such a minimal part of the job of software engineers. Most of the time is spent designing and debugging. Having an agent write the code means more time figuring out hard problems and integrating with existing systems safely.

@GergelyOrosz Too often you’d hear something along the lines of “I voted for Brexit because we had to do something about these {non EU racial slur} coming here”. Total lack of basic understanding of what they were voting for.

As a reminder, Britain voted to "take back control" in 2016. Since 2020, the UK has had full control of their borders. And it worked! Immigration from the EU has been negative since 2020 (more EU ppl left than settled) Pushing for non-EU immigration was a government decision.

We're ending Britain's open borders experiment. For too long, businesses were actively encouraged to bring in lower paid workers, rather than invest in our own people. We’re fixing the system and restoring control to our borders. Here’s how. Thread👇

@robertburke84 Or… hear me out here, he didn’t love his video being shared by the unpleasant sides of the anti immigration debate and took it down… there’s little sign of the criticism that folk are cultching pearls about.

A few people asked, so here’s the Garron Noone video so people can make up their own mind. If the views expressed below are to be considered extreme and far-right, then what on earth are we now pretending is the political centre in Ireland? It’s absurd.

@chamath Except the US 10 year is higher than all of these except the U.K., which has been a bit of a basket case recently. So perhaps this isn’t the canary you suggest it is?

The big gobs of money in the world are speaking pretty loudly right now: “The US market is safe and our money will be there. If UK and Europe want to support an ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia they can borrow from us to do so but they will have to pay for it via higher interest rates.” This, more than anything else, may swiftly end the war. Simply, the UK and Europe cannot afford to borrow like this no matter their political philosophy.

@has_janey18742 @AidanMullins7 You’re right. I don’t know who this judge was but they clearly don’t understand grammar. I’d love to explain it to them properly.

Enoch Burke refused to use "they/them" pronouns for a transgender child on religious grounds. He spent over 500 days in jail with 79K euros in fines. Many people guilty of robbery, sexual assault, violent assault, drug dealing etc. get off with suspended sentences. Is this fair?

@dhh Hate speech is not allowed. This does not affect 99.99% of people in Europe and a fair judicial body defends the rare minority against unfair targeting. It’s a non-issue for the vast majority but an easy target for rabble rousers.

@dhh The concept that Europe would welcome the US as liberators is absurd. Comparisons of Europe to authoritarians is hyperbolic strawmanning. Europe prioritises social liberty; we don’t let people go bankrupt over illness; we provide greater access to education.

There's a deep irony in Europeans begrudgingly admitting that maybe the state of free speech isn't great in Europe, but that they can't take the point seriously, because look at all the problems America has!! This is exactly what every authoritarian leader around the world says when Europe criticizes their human rights records or free speech or elections. Oh, sure, maybe we have some issues, but WHO ARE YOU TO TALK?! Great argument, Europe 👌 Problems are problems regardless of who points them out. Downplaying the free-speech crackdown because you don't like the messenger is silly. And it's arming the people you REALLY don't want to see in power with more ammunition for their campaign. Europe could turn this around. Reclaim the moral high ground. Preserve the right to give China or Russia a lecture on free speech. And Denmark should lead the way by abolishing all its anti-free speech laws (266b, 136-2, 110e-2).

@dhh It’s most curious to see the idea that the problems of America are so much better than the problems of Europe suddenly rear its head up so vehemently in certain cohorts. Would make you think that the proponents have an ulterior motive in mind.

I want to believe that most Europeans would greet the Americans as liberators, if the Yankees managed to counter this free speech crackdown. But I know that probably isn't true. Entirely likely that a majority enjoys their little speech cages and the persecutions of wrongthink.
