Perception = Reality. $TSLA I wasn’t going to write this after @WholeMarsBlog’s post, but after watching OG Tesla voices like Omar, @TeslaBoomerMama and @herbertong get attacked for simply being bullish, it needs saying. I keep seeing complaints that Tesla bulls “hype” the company too much. Here’s my take: What some call “hype” is often just long-term observers who’ve watched the journey. It’s like seeing your child grow up. When you’ve followed the progress for years, the excitement is natural. Not every enthusiastic post is hype. Sure, some over-the-top takes exist, but they’re rarer than critics claim. Judge the arguments, not the energy. DO NOT expect the same opinions from a fund manager interested in keeping emotional clients happy and looking to hit quarterly numbers, versus someone that is all-in $TSLA for many years and relying on it for retirement. They are not the same. The loudest complaints lately are about missed timelines. Fair point, but context matters. Tesla repeatedly tries things the world called impossible: • FSD with vision only? Laughable. • Cars without steering wheels or pedals? Yeah, right. • A successful EV-only automaker? Time to short the stock. That same skepticism has followed Tesla for over a decade and there’s a clear pattern. The longer someone has followed Tesla, the more their focus is on Tesla >> $TSLA . Elon and the team aren’t building teddy bears, they’re tackling incredibly difficult, high-stakes problems where getting it right is far more important than getting it fast. Robotaxi safety is paramount. If you’re a long-term investor, you already know timelines are aspirational. You understand that pioneering the impossible comes with unpredictability. HODLing $TSLA isn’t easy. It demands the patience of a sloth, the research discipline of Einstein, and the mental grit of David Goggins. If reading this fills you with negativity instead of perspective, it might be worth asking if this really the right company for your capital? Let’s keep the conversation productive. I often see during times like this that an executive of the company will step in and add to his allocation. A sign of confidence you know. To your loyal shareholders. I wonder if the C-suite executives have the balls to, or will they just keep with their regularly scheduled cash-outs. $TSLA.

SpaceX builds rockets. Rockets run on chemical propulsion. Chemical propulsion has a ceiling. It can reach Mars. Maybe deeper into the solar system. But interstellar travel requires physics that doesn’t exist yet. Weinstein: “You can’t get to the stars using SpaceX because it’s a chemical rocket company.” The ceiling isn’t the universe’s. It’s ours. Weinstein: “One of his slogans is ad astra, to the stars.” To the stars. From a man who knows better than anyone that his rockets can’t reach them. You don’t declare a destination your vehicle can’t reach unless you already know what replaces it. The rockets were never the endgame. Weinstein: “I think he’s given up on the corruption of science. He keeps talking about the fact that he doesn’t like the term researcher, he believes only in engineers.” The breakthroughs that would get humanity past chemical propulsion should have happened decades ago. They didn’t. Not because the physics is impossible. Because the institutions responsible for discovering it optimized for everything except discovery. Grant cycles. Tenure politics. Citation metrics. The entire incentive structure of modern science rewards safe, incremental work and punishes the kind of risk that produces breakthroughs. The system isn’t broken. It’s working exactly as designed. It was just never designed for discovery. Weinstein: “I think what he’s doing is he’s building Grok to do science in a time when humans are too corrupt to be truthful and real.” Musk looked at the entire global scientific establishment and decided it was faster to build a mind that could do the physics than to fix the institutions that wouldn’t. That calculation alone tells you everything about the state of modern science. Everyone sees xAI competing with OpenAI and Anthropic in the chatbot race. Weinstein is saying it was never in the chatbot race. It’s in the physics race. The one nobody else is running. Weinstein: “Look at the logo for Grok, I think it’s like a black hole profile. Look at its slogan, to understand the universe.” Not to assist. Not to optimize. To understand the universe. SpaceX is the vehicle. xAI is the destination. One builds the ship. The other discovers how far it can go. The distance to the stars was never measured in light years. It was measured in the limits of the mind reaching for them. The most ambitious project on Earth right now isn’t a rocket program. It’s an AI being built to find the physics that makes rockets obsolete.

With Tesla's Q2 earnings call this week, I'm sadly going in with much different expectations. I really don't know how much we can believe of what Tesla and Elon say I'm only sharing this with the hope that Elon and Tesla will recalibrate and learn to underpromise and overperform rather than the opposite which creates new, unnecessary attack vectors and disillusionment of many Tesla fans and investors. If these goals are so uncertain, please just don't share them. Say whatever you want internally, but to say them publicly and not even get close does nothing but hurt the company and many following it In just a few of the most recent calls Elon said the following: Q2 '25: "I believe half of the population of the US will be covered by Tesla's Robotaxi by the end of the year." Reality: not even close Q3 '25: "We do expect to be operating robotaxi in, I think, about eight to ten metro areas by the end of the year." Reality: 1 Q3 '25: "We expect to be operating in Nevada, Florida, and Arizona by the end of the year." Reality: none Q4 '25: "In terms of taxi vehicles carrying paid customers, I think we're well over 500 at this point between the Bay Area and Austin. This will probably double every month type of thing." Reality: number largely stayed flat and Unsupervised is much smaller I love Tesla and have been a superfan for well over a decade. I'm not here for short term $TSLA performance. But this is far more than just a one-off mistake or single moment of hubris. This is clearly a trend and as someone who holds Tesla to a higher standard, I'd love to see them do better with setting expectations. And further, if you do miss a timeline that was very public, communicating the reasons transparently would go a very long way to maintaining credibility going forward

It would be really cool if every Tesla had Starlink integrated into every car, just like Cybercab does. I take a Starlink Mini every time I go on a road trip as backup. It’s come in clutch a few times already. To enable it, you’d just pay a monthly fee.

The deployment rate of @robotaxi has been growing, but it feels like it is slow rolling while we wait for FSD v15. @elonmusk mentioned on the last call that with the known safety improvements coming in v15 it was only logical to only go wider with robotaxi once that model was available. Now the question to @aelluswamy and the @Tesla_AI team.. wen v 15?
