Hot take, but in Breaking Bad, Gretchen and Elliot really aren’t the villains people make them out to be.
Walt didn’t get betrayed he walked away. He left Gretchen because he felt small next to her family’s money. He chose to sell his share of Gray Matter. They didn’t steal anything, they just stayed and built what he abandoned.
When they found out Walter White had cancer, they genuinely offered to pay for his treatment. No strings attached. That would’ve been a miracle for anyone else but Walt’s pride couldn’t handle it.
Even at the end, when they deny his role, it’s self-preservation. Being linked to Heisenberg would’ve destroyed their lives and the company.
Gretchen isn’t mean she’s just distant, upper-class, and a painful reminder of the life Walt could’ve had if his ego hadn’t gotten in the way.

NIMBY my ass. I literally lived next to a housing development for years, waking up to the sound of laborers - whom I supported being able to work early and through the COVID pandemic - to build housing.
Funny how I don’t hear the anti-rent control crowd fighting government regulation when it comes to Prop 13. I guess there IS a reason for cost control on housing.

That's interesting, because from my vantage point air travel is mostly getting better. Airport food at SFO has gotten really great. Baggage services don't lose my bag anymore. Boarding is a lot smoother. Check-in and bag drop are so much easier. Airport seats more comfy, etc.

Couldn't the government end the practice of illegal bribes pretty easily by just making it legal to keep the cash if you report it? Nobody would have an incentive to follow through when they could turn you in for the same payout.

Flashback: Somalians in Minnesota tried to help their brethren escape justice at a massive fraud trial by giving a juror around $200,000 in a cash bag for returning a "not guilty" decision in the verdict. They picked a black female juror and said she could try to convince the others that the prosecution was white supremacist and racist. The juror reported the attempted bribe to the court.

@demystifysci I'm no EE, but I've recently come to suspect that more research needs to go into varying-rate DC (like AC that never reverses direction of flow). Natural flows seem to support this (think of vortexes, ocean waves, etc). Most flow is net-forward, with little or no reversal.

@brandon_lighty @sam_d_1995 Zoning laws and regulations make it much tougher to build government subsidized affordable housing. If you want the government to build a lot of housing for people, deregulation is still needed.

What's actually happening here: ABC made a big show of freezing property taxes, and they were counting on a public land selloff to save them from the deep cuts to city programs and services that will invariably result. Now they're panicked #vanpoli

This was a once-in-a-generation opportunity to seriously address affordability by building thousands of homes for middle income folks while creating tens of millions in non-tax revenue for parks, community centres, and infrastructure - all at no cost to taxpayers. Today's vote shows Vancouverites that ABC is the only party focused on real solutions for housing and affordability.
