@brucefenton There were life time Republicans voting Democrat for the first time in their lives, or at least staying home not voting. They have the foresight to see Donald Trump is the worst for US of A. Too late to whinge now.

Trump wasn’t my first choice for the nomination. Or even the second or fourth choice. I liked Vivek, DeSantis, Bergum much more than Trump. I couldn’t stand that he placed Fauci on the stage with him instead of in jail and that Trump pushed Operation Warp Speed. He had a bad record on liberty and was a big govt / big spender. He failed to drain the swamp his previous term and was a business grifter. Once he won the nomination I supported him because I felt the alternative was worse.

I’m a Republican. I supported Trump. I raised money for him, I voted for him. I donated $60,000 to his campaign. Trump lied. He rugpulled us all. I didn’t vote for Lindsey Graham / America Second policies. You can disagree with me if you want. It’s your right to be fooled. But if you say I have “TDS” or am a “liberal” you need a new argument. There are millions of conservatives and members of the now torched “broad coalition” just like me. The only ones left supporting him are MAGA always Trumpers who place the man above the policies and our country.

@TMFScottP (continued on that 2008 story) Seven other OECD countries hastily coordinated their Central Bank to cut interest rate within 24 hours of RBA decision. The market was hoping to see some sort of coordination and knowing what they're doing, even if only in appearance, at the time.

@TMFScottP Political expediency more than economic calculation. Any perceived indecision by the government may cause queue forming & panic buying eg. recall the Federal Reserve was frozen up in 2008, cutting rate marginally, until the RBA made a decisive 1% cut gave to market some comfort

I called it nonsense when Taylor announced his policy, and I'll call it nonsense now the government has announced it. In (almost) the same breath, he then talks about demand management! I think the PM means 'we're under significant political pressure'. Politics-over-policy!

Just a reminder that @RichardMarlesMP called out the Liberals for closing Fuel Refineries in February 2021 Our Fuel Problems were caused by the Liberals so when the complain they are irrelvant. Our PM @AlboMP is doing everything they can.
Richard Marles@RichardMarlesMP

The closure of ExxonMobil oil refinery at Altona is devastating news for hundreds of local workers and for the future of Australia’s fuel security. It’s further proof that the Government has no plan for the workers or industry affected by these decisions.

Australia has 2 refineries; Ampol in Brisbane & Viva Energy in Geelong (with govt support). Economies-of-scale mean it's more viable for companies to import diesel, petrol & other products from Asian refineries but peace in Middle-East is key. #auspol abc.net.au/news/2026-03-3…

Let's say your going on holiday to Bonnie Doon for the break. 300km return trip now costs $18-30 more in total. Are people cancelling over $30 when accommodation is several 100 per night?
Rhain Williams@rhainw

@PeteWargent Unleaded 91 at 2.60 a litre, Easter , lots of trips cancelled , fuel supply risk increasing and supply chains and many businesses impacted I’ve heard a few stories from friends and clients - already having very meaningful impact to businesses

Reel, get a grip. You've lost this one. The reason there'll be 500K batteries in Oz by the end of the year, is because they work, and people all over Oz rave about their bills being slashed. Ditto, EVs. The only people who rant against them, have no clue what they're like.
Reel One@Reel_One_2250

@Peter_Fitz From bills? What about the capital outlay? Then you have the replacement cost? Also they keep changing the rules so the grid always wins. Your battery can be used to supply the grid. If there's excess pwr in the grid your panels can be switched off upstream of battery.

This country hasn’t had this kind of competent, stable, government, since Hawke and Keating. No turmoil. No scandals with minsters resigning No undermining of the PM. I wholeheartedly support @AlboMP and @AustralianLabor The LNP and One Nation would have our young men and women in the Middle East as soon as Trump snapped his fingers. They love Trump and love wars. When they can send other people to fight them.

@QBCCIntegrity The Coalition government has allowed 4 refineries to close under their watch between 2013-2022. "Debt and Deficit" was a slogan for their budget repair fetish.

My three biggest dreams for Australia over the next 30 years: - Build 150 subway stations across the five major Australian cities. Bring the Paris/London/NYC metro to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane. - Build high speed rail down entire eastern seaboard. Brisbane to the Gold Coast in 15 minutes. Sydney to Melbourne in 1.5 hours. - Build 50 nuclear power plants like France - decarbonise our entire energy grid while making ourselves completely self sufficient in energy for the next 100 years

@DrCraigEmerson @AlboMP The price rises from the crisis are inflationary. Borrowing money to halve the excise is also inflationary and will increases supply when there is a shortage. Much better to introduce measures to reduce demand. Maybe politically smart, but policy-wise it's not.

Two good economists opposing the @AlboMP Government’s halving of the fuel excise. Many others saying the same. If fuel prices rise it’s inflationary. If government halves fuel excise it’s inflationary. Far better to do nothing. Respectfully I disagree.

Proving yet again that Saul & I may be the exact same person, we've used the exact same phrase in describing the potential impact of current policy changes Less than a year ago I failed to convince 2 Aussies outside a pub in the UK that I wasn't Saul Maybe they were right...
