@pr_tanner @rakyll hmmmm. I dont think that these are necessarily good comparisons.. I would compare trips instead of miles, and then also compare trains vs planes instead of cars vs planes

Decades of hard built trust in aviation is being destroyed. I’m now a 'last resort' flyer. Once your brain flips to feeling unsafe, there’s no easy way to flip it back.

@MattSpoke @ivicaArt They would have to take a loan at a much higher interest rate on the open market. That’s why they took the government money. It’s a subsidy.

This misunderstands the economics of this announcement. I don't love when the government steps into the market like this, but this is a net positive step for a housing market experiencing atrophy. First, $300m is from the Province and will be repaid with interest. The balance is from private investors. Second, these condo units are getting purchased at a massive loss to the developers who built them. Yes, it frees up some of their equity, but mostly they lock in their loss. Third, the equity that is freed up will help kickstart new housing projects that are waiting on the sidelines.
Paul Manning@mobinfiltrator

Hey #Ontario, @fordnation is using $1.3 Billion in taxpayer funds to bail out his developer buddies. With the $300 Million from the BOF, which is also your money, that’s $727,000 a unit. He’s literally giving rich people your money for the bad business decision they made, whilst you don’t have a doctor, or can’t afford groceries. #onloli #canpoli

@peteremcc @danielfoch This makes me think this data is junk. Trend is suspiciously linear too. Usually survey data like this is jumpier. Not saying young people aren’t unhappy now, but I don’t trust this graph.

The fact that the rich move rather than fight the tax shows how little political power they actually have. It also shows how powerful unions and other special interest groups are.

Radar graphs are among the worst ideas in data visualization. The whole point of them is to show the area and you can usually reorder the labels freely in order to create a desired dramatic effect. Two versions of the same graph: - left one tells the story that AI is rapidly replacing whole industries - right one shows the "jaggedness" and reinforces the idea that humans will always have something that AI won't be able to replicate

The racial polarization in the TX U.S. Senate primary is extreme. Crockett is winning heavily Black areas in Tarrant County by up to 80 points while Talarico is winning the affluent, white suburbs by 50-60 points.

It’s a good sci-fi read. One thought experiment is that if Jamie Dimon could push an AI button and fire half his company with no impact on profits would he do it? Because to me the answer is clearly no, he’s smarter than that. And he’s not alone.

JUNE 2028. The S&P is down 38% from its highs. Unemployment just printed 10.2%. Private credit is unraveling. Prime mortgages are cracking. AI didn’t disappoint. It exceeded every expectation. What happened? citriniresearch.com/p/2028gic

Obama: "At some point, you age out. You're not connected directly to the immediate struggles that folks are going through. I'm not making a hard and fast rule here, but I think Democrats do well when we have candidates who are plugged into the moment. To the zeitgeist. To the times."

Just To Be Clear: Canada IS IN North America - We Want To Align Defense With Europe? Does 3 things: - Angers US Government just prior to CUSMA Renewal - Aligns Canada with those who will NEVER come to our Defense if we're attacked - Creates Defense tech inferior to US tech
Mark Carney@MarkJCarney

Canada is now the first non-European country to be granted a membership in SAFE. This is a gamechanger program that means Canada can rearm our Canadian Armed Forces members more effectively and scale up our defence industries with more contracts overseas.

@JacobPacheco6 Part of the reason Canada did so well in Vancouver is because the Canadian athletes got more training time on the courses than foreign athletes, which really helps for things like bobsled and skeleton.

Americans traveling to Italy to witness the 2026 Winter Olympics say residents have been friendly to them amid heightened political tensions in the United States and around the world. One spectator from Minnesota said he's met a number of Americans, even some from his state, and they haven't been talking about politics or what's been going on at home, instead focusing on coming together and having a good time. "This is a time for us to pause and smile and enjoy each other," he told CBS News' Seth Doane.
