please tell me more about how this works in #India and other countries where can women safely save for themselves and not worry that husband will use HER savings w/o consulting them? @prarthnagl1 @paraj00 @tracey_west4 @SilviaG27358156 @jackiezhangyin @prasanthir30

@econoflove @seema_econ Interesting article.Yes in India it is very unlikely of working women to not allow husbands to access their accounts or say in earnings. Though women have legal rights. It is more about historical patriarchy, inadequate female financial literacy and larger hours to house work.

My colleague @SidSanghi has been working on the value of a vaccine with Carlos Garriga and Rody Manuelli - a topic worth thinking about more during these times.
WUSTLnews@WUSTLnews

Economists from @WUSTLbusiness participate in study on next phase of pandemic. The findings: Relaxing stay-at-home policies will be accompanied by increases in infection rate; & race for a vaccine will lose its value to big Pharma with each passing day. bit.ly/2Bt4YSf

@SidSanghi @hayleywabi @DvSchwartzman (3/3) This also raises the issue that after what length of time can the data be trusted? We are also exploring other sources with which we could corroborate the data. We will update as we find out more.

@SidSanghi @hayleywabi @DvSchwartzman (2/3) The fact that we are not sure if we can trust data marked “>100%” (which all weeks prior to and including week 10 are) surprises me-some reporting error/updating (but not to the level of 20 percent!) I understand. Maybe it is further delayed due to the pandemic.

In today's #SARSCOV2 figures, check Los Angeles traffic accidents. They've fallen by over 90 percent. People in LA staying at home.

@econoflove We are also trying to collect data on accidents, murders, suicides to see if there's a downward trend too (atleast till week of Mar 21); as the weeks go along, the coronavirus deaths might rise & other consequences of it(suicides, mental health, domestic violence) might take over

Very interesting. It seems like lockdowns etc are saving lives! Fewer other viruses? Fewer car accidents? Read the thread. Prasanthi took my class on economics of households. Proud of her

@benconomics We can only split cause of death by flu/pneumonia and non-flu/pneu at this point. We are trying to collect data on accidents, murders, and suicides as that might be more easily available than other causes of death (cancer, heart disease). Will update as we go along! @SidSanghi

@prasanthir30 Not surprised. Bet it drops more or stays level until April when the epidemic will peak. Can you split cause of death in those or is it just total counts? I would love to see 1. Traffic accidents 2. Murders 3. Suicides 4. Heart disease 5. Cancer 6. Respiratory Illness etc.
