@omriceren @BillAckman Why aren’t we at war with North Korea then? How about Russia or China? Those countries have far greater military capacity than Iran and at least for NK certainly have the intent to strike the USA. There’s no evidence Iran intended to attack the USA save for being attacked first.

Huh. Fully operational IRBMs. I guess President Trump and U.S. defense officials had access to information regarding Iran's missile capabilities that was not available to leftwing tankies, New Right dipshits, and journalists.
OSINTtechnical@Osinttechnical

Iran fired a pair of intermediate-range ballistic missiles at Diego Garcia, a joint U.S.-UK base in the Indian Ocean. One missile failed in flight, and another was engaged by a US Navy destroyer using an SM-3 missile.

After a century of pushing unlimited spending as fiscal policy and just after burning trillions of dollars on left-wing fantasies without a single Republican vote, Democrats have found an expenditure they oppose: steaks for American troops.
House Armed Services Democrats@HASCDemocrats

Americans are struggling to make ends meet with rising prices from gas stations to grocery stores, and everywhere else, but the Trump Admin is good with spending millions on surf and turf and a $1.5 trillion defense budget. Where's DOGE when you need them?

@pre176 @TimSheehyMT Wrong. The US produces about 13.5 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil as of 2025. The US imports another 8 million bpd from Canada and Mexico. That is 21.5M bpd. The US consumes about 20M bpd. We are fine.

I received a classified briefing from the administration. It is categorically false that they did not plan for Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz. Lawmakers and national security officials have known for years that this was Iran’s plan once their backs were against the wall.
Zachary Cohen@ZcohenCNN

New: The Pentagon & National Security Council significantly underestimated Iran’s willingness to close the Strait of Hormuz in response to US military strikes while planning the ongoing operation, sources to me, @Phil_Mattingly, @kylieatwood & @Kevinliptakcnn. Top Trump officials acknowledged to lawmakers during recent classified briefings that they did not plan for the possibility of Iran closing the strait in response to strikes, per 3 sources. cnn.com/2026/03/12/pol…

@TheJetNamedChet @TimSheehyMT We use quite a bit more than the 13 million barrels per day that we consume. We are most definitely NOT petroleum independent nor insulated from global oil markets and disruptions.

@TimSheehyMT For all the commenters complaining about the US military engaging in war with Iran without a plan to keep the Strait of Hormuz open - realize that the US is petroleum independent. WE are fine. You know who is not fine? China. 😝

@pureMetatron And what does MAGA have to do with the historical Republican party? Today’s Republican party is strongest in the parts of the country that seceded. And Dems are strongest in what was the heart of the Union. So now you don’t have to be confused anymore.

@Mattdoll @RepMGP The two aren’t remotely similar. Biden was basically forced out by his own party because it became obvious he had no shot at winning. Daines is hand picking his own successor by not publicly declaring his intentions until the last second. Explain to us how that is equivalent.

@RepMGP Agreed this is lame. I can also admit it is EXACTLY what the Democratic Party did to us in the last presidential election and stuck us all with a candidate that couldn't ever win. I'm still mad about this.

I support funding and arming Ukraine. I support regime change in Iran. It is wild watching a lot of people who support the former, but not the latter, suddenly concerned about the United States running out of weapons. Would giving them to Ukraine not do the same thing? (also, it's not true)

@al4n_woot @TRHLofficial I thought you said it was over already. And what was the “terrorist threat” exactly? No evidence has been forthcoming that Iran was planning any sort of attack. In fact, they made significant concessions on their nuclear program before Trump decided to start a war.

This logic means that we capitulate to terrorists threats if there would be blowback? Yes, there’s always blowback. My vote is that we suffer the blowback sooner because it will only get worse as time passes. Now seems like a good time. Rip the bandaid off quickly and be done with it.

After the U.S. attacks a country, we experience some combination of escalation, regional spill over, refugee crises, credibility erosion, empowered extremists, endless wars, and we often have no clear exit. Libertarians know this as blowback and blowback happens 100% of the time.

@Noahpinion No argument on Russia, but he did have a diplomatic deal in place that verifiably kept Iran’s nuclear aims in check. It had nothing to do with trust. Somebody walked away from that deal and now we see the consequences of that idiotic decision.

I love Barack Obama. On domestic issues he was a great President. Plus he got Bin Laden. But I'm forced to admit that on foreign policy, he was terrible -- he ignored Russia's first invasion of Ukraine, didn't address growing Chinese power, and trusted Iran's leaders.

@hughhewitt @POTUS What is the meaning of war, @hughhewitt? Because according to article 1, section 8, only Congress holds the power to declare war. It seems to me that this hypothetical months long campaign would in fact be a war. If we throw the meaning of words out the window, we are lawless.

As @POTUS nears his decision re: #Iran, Chief Justice Roberts’ emphasis on the power to tax as a “birth-right” power of the Congress in Friday’s Learning Resources decision become very relevant in a different realm of debate over the Constitution’s separation of powers b/c critics of possible military actions are arguing President Trump lacks the legal basis to act. He does not. The “Commander-in-Chief” power is a “birth-right” power of the Executive, one which is as strong an independent grant of authority to President Trump as the power to tax is to the Congress. If President Trump orders even a months-long campaign of strikes against Iran, as President Obama did in Libya in 2011, he will be acting within that “birth-right power.” His orders will also be buttressed by the AUMF from September 18, 2001. Questions about the AUMF’s applicability to Iran? Give a listen to the “Iran Breakdown” episode from the last week. The link is in the replies. @mdubowitz and Ambassador Edmund Fitton-Brown lay it all out in great detail.

@baseballcrank Words do have meaning. If you can just make up whatever you want to get what you want, then the law becomes meaningless. The emergency powers are there for a specific reason. If you can abuse the law for reasons that aren’t what the law is for, how is that not breaking the law?

The progressive legal strategy in a nutshell: instead of placing structural limitations on the executive branch, supervise its motives so that you can declare the same powers barred to Trump but constitutional when exercised for purposes you like.

In fairness to Huckabee, the viral clip cuts off abruptly, so I watched the full version to see if it was selectively edited. If anything, it’s worse. He is completely unable to reconcile his belief in what God promised to the Jews with international law, hemming and hawing before concluding that whether Israel could take everything from the Nile to the Euphrates is irrelevant because it isn’t trying to. (But tbh I don't blame him for being unable to reconcile two irreconcilible things.)
jasper nathaniel@infinite_jaz

Completely insane to have a diplomat, let alone an ambassador, who completely rejects borders and international law in favor of biblical prophecy.

@kenadams_68 @jcmeyer119 @themagaking That’s a lot of nonsense. Congress passed the ACA which included the tax. The tariffs are Trump’s desired policy. But to use them as he wishes to, he must run it through Congressional approval per the Constitution. Don’t like it? Pass an amendment.

Justice Roberts: Obama can force every American to buy health insurance, and hit them with a “tax” if they refuse? YES. Justice Roberts: Biden can force federal workers to take a vaccine, even against personal beliefs, doctor advice, or religious objections? YES. Justice Roberts: Trump can impose reciprocal tariffs to level the playing field and help American workers? NO. Justice isn’t blind. For Roberts, it’s political.
