In a series of posts, I want to explain why I do what I do, and what @lukso_io is all about. Read them, if you've ever wondered, "What the fuck is LUKSO?" In the early days of Ethereum, we had a vision of using Blockchain as a means to create a new society. The idea was simple: Over time, we would transform every tool we have on the Internet into a decentralized form and build new ways of interacting globally. That’s why we built the Mist browser for Apps — which frontend ran on your computer, without servers, relying solely on smart contracts on the Blockchain for logic. We believed, eventually, every application would function that way. We didn’t anticipate the challenges of making this technology both decentralized and accessible. This endeavour has been my life for the past nine years. --- When the idea of LUKSO came up, and @MRJRHDZ and I talked about combining fashion and lifestyle with Blockchain. What struck me was the idea of using something universally like fashion and culture as a Trojan 🐴 horse to introduce people to decentralized technology. The fact that something is decentralized isn't enough to capture people's interest, as we've seen over the past 10+ years in crypto. I knew we need better tools, better standards and a better foundation, so that we can make this technology accessible, but also interesting! Not everyone wants to become a trader, or investor, people just want to create culture, feel part of a community and be useful. Tokens and trading is a niche, but right now the only real use case of crypto, thanks to my ERC20 proposal from 2015 😅 I knew that in order to bring in better standards and cheaper fees (It was 2017, the high times of ethereum GAS fees) we need to start a new Blockchain. One where everyone uses better standards, and is not bound by the legacy of ERC20 and wallets. God was I underestimating the challenges and the many learning and turns I had to go through to pull it off. But I know, it was the only way, to introduce radically better building blocks, that are not just a small evolution, but fundamentally a new generation of the foundations of Dapps🏛️ (Accounts 👥, Tokens 🪙, NFTs 🎆) Little did I know that the standard I developed just a month before in 2017 would be so instrumental on this journey. For me, the goal has always been to put decentralized tools into everyone's hands—making them accessible and engaging. This would allow people to create new forms of organizations, communities, and ways of organizing ourselves as humanity across the globe. Over the last few years, I've learned what is needed and how we can achieve that. I took the lessons I gained during my first three years building in the Ethereum space and grew from there. So what is LUKSO? It’s Ethereum, but with better building blocks. Building blocks that will allow for new ways of using web3, better UX, more possibilities and a human centric approach to Dapps. In the next posts, I will dig deeper into the aspects of why its better, and what it will enable compared to todays web3.
