Interesting how many of them are so called "soft skills". Perspectives of leadership are changing.

Storytelling is a core capability for leaders of change. Stories are the building blocks of empathy & compassion and a way of getting to the heart of who you are. They foster feelings of community & connection. They can help people feel more in control & less alone in the challenges they face. Leaders who tell compelling stories can move their audience from apathy to empathy & ultimately to action.

High levels of ‘social capital’ (the value gained when people work well together) create the conditions for high performance in health & care. The evaluation of 5 NHS organisations that undertook whole system transformation showed that social capital is more important than human capital (the skills, knowledge & experience people possess) when it comes to improving performance. Now, research newly published in @HarvardBiz concludes that social capital is at least, or more important, than human capital OR financial capital for high performance in healthcare organisations.
If we want to improve performance & productivity, we need to get serious about:
- understanding social capital (relational co-ordination & social network analysis)
- providing the time, space, focus & leadership support for relationships & connections
- building it into our improvement routines & nurturing & measuring its growth as a key component of our performance strategy.

We increasingly organise our change & improvement activities through networks. Networks are based on relationships so if we want a vibrant & successful network, we need to help people joining our networks to join in & play their part. @FitoNetwork has produced a useful checklist for supporting new network members. So whether we're welcoming new members to an existing network or creating a new network, we should take actions to:
1) Enable initial connection & information sharing
2) Help people engage in collaborative activities
3) Establish regular participation & foster collaboration
