I constantly see Catholics and orthodox get angry when you accuse them of adding works to the gospel, while simultaneously vehemently rejecting that we’re justified by faith alone. This makes absolutely no sense. If you reject sola fide, then that necessarily means you believe works are necessary for justification. You can’t escape that.

Skipping Mass doesn’t automatically send someone to hell. It is a grave sin that, if committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent, is a mortal sin that puts a person’s soul in serious danger. But the Church doesn’t teach that someone is automatically damned to hell.
The reason is simple: at Mass, Christ is offering you His Body and Blood. Intentionally rejecting that is far more serious than just skipping a church service. In most Protestant churches, you’re missing a few songs and a sermon. In the Catholic Church, you’re missing the Eucharistic sacrifice. That’s why it doesn’t register the same way in Protestant theology.
