I went to the theatre last night and during the interval had to battle the huge queue for the women’s toilets, as usual. As we’re all patiently queuing across the whole foyer we witnessed a (what’s probably the biggest I’ve ever seen in the wild) middle aged Troon exiting the women’s toilets. Not one word of protest left any of the women’s lips, including mine. All I could muster was an angry “tut”. He was TERRIFYING. And that, ladies and gents, is why these men can argue that women and girls aren’t bothered by their presence in women only spaces because they never challenge them. They use women and girls terrified silence to imply it means they consent. He KNEW exactly why we didn’t challenge him. He KNEW he was not welcome. He didn’t care! It’s all a part of the thrill of invading, dominating and subjugating women and girls spaces and lives.
