The editors were quite upset, calling this revision "petty" and "misguided" I was "casting shade" on the original authors for not meeting replication standards that "do not *exist* [in Sociology]" Indeed, they allege the ASA has "actively prevented their implementation"🤨10/16

@caltamura3 You may disagree with my framing, but is it not true that ASA doesn't allow it's journals to require replication packages?? I'm genuinely confused on your point.
More importantly, are you saying you're happy with the status quo and that it should not be changed?

TIL US sociologists prohibit data sharing by design. This is an embarrassment--not just for those behind such rules, but for the field that prides itself on studying power and accountability. Who would believe your stories about racism and inequality if you can just make them up?

Many have tried to explain discriminatory hiring and other DEI insanities academics brought on themselves with left-wing bias and self-censorship.
I think a bigger factor was simply forgetting about the taxpayer who funds us. Had we asked the public whether what we were doing in 2020-2021 was OK, they'd have said "Hell, no."

By the way assertions like “tool X can’t do Y” are difficult to provide evidence for. But if you could show it you’d have a cool paper to write and publish!

My view (unpopular in my line of work) is this seems really wrong. X in particular has provided actual information about public affairs that I am not sure I would’ve had without it.
It does supply bad information too but IMO more symptom than cause of disordered public affairs.

We have a new working paper that is sadly relevant again. When anti-Jewish attacks are framed as anti-Israel, opposition to violent hate crimes erodes. Something journalists should keep in mind when covering the horrific antisemitic attack in Australia.
