Data from over 2,000 restaurants shows that the $20/hr minimum wage didn’t reduce employment. And prices only increased 1.5%. So a $4 burger would now be $4.06. This is one of the stupidest DOJ cases in history. Southern Poverty Law Center wasn’t paying the Klan, they were paying informants to who were helping to take down the Klan.

The DOJ just indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that has spent more than half a century fighting the Klan, tracking hate, and defending civil rights.
Let's be clear about what's happening. This administration is using the full weight of federal prosecution to target an organization whose mission is rooting out violent extremism.
This is part and parcel of Trump's assault on free speech, on nonprofits, and on anyone who dares to disagree with him. First it was lawfare against political opponents. @SenAlexPadilla The importers paid the tariffs - they will get the refund. Generally prices didn't rise (no inflation). So, most of those tariffs were not passed onto the consumer like Padilla dishonestly wants people to believe. There's also a chance Padilla is just extraordinarily stupid.

@CynicalPublius I don't think this properly understands the argument. The robots/AI don't do it for free. People are given UHI so that they can pay for what the robots/AI provide. The trouble is in who decides what the robots provide to the consumer? Is there competition to drive innovation?

AI robots meeting all of our human needs for free?
I have questions:
1. Someone must pay money to build the AI robots that build/provide the "free" goods and services. Such someone will have control over the AI robots. Why will that someone allow those goods and services to be given away for "free"? That's not human nature (see my next question).
2. Goods and services are wealth. Wealth is power. Mankind craves power, always has and always will. Why would mankind give away wealth when it means giving away power?
3. What if the someone controlling the AI robots and the "free" goods and services is named Karen and if you don't adopt the woke political views that Karen demands you adopt, you get no goods, no food, no services, bupkis, no nothing, you starve?
And if your answer to all of the above is "the AI robots will be autonomous," think about what you just said, Mr. John Connor.
I just see this as a variation on the dangers of the lure of communism, except after the AI robots use us as human batteries in THEIR Five Year Plan, "We never have had REAL AI robots" will be cold comfort.
Sorry for the negative waves, but I think this concept fails to account for human nature.

The year is 1962. Your doctor prescribes thalidomide to your pregnant wife for morning sickness. It has been approved. The FDA gave it the green light in Europe. Twelve thousand children will be born with severe limb malformations before anyone in an official capacity acknowledges the problem. The families are told the drug was safe. The drug was approved. Both of these things remain true.
The year is 1972. Your doctor prescribes Valium. Britain is in the grip of a benzodiazepine wave that will last two decades. The dependency risk is known internally. It is not shared. Your doctor is not lying to you. He was not told either.
The year is 1999. Your doctor prescribes Vioxx for your arthritis. It is newer than ibuprofen, well-tolerated, and Merck has a study showing it works. Merck also has internal data suggesting it roughly doubles the risk of heart attack. This data will not reach your doctor for four more years. Fifty thousand people are estimated to have died in the interim. Merck eventually settles for 4.85 billion dollars. No criminal charges are brought.
The year is 2002. Your doctor prescribes OxyContin. Purdue Pharma trained its sales representatives to tell doctors the addiction risk was less than one percent. That figure came from a letter, not a study. The letter was about patients with terminal cancer on short-term doses in hospital settings. Your doctor is a GP with a patient who has a bad back. Nobody draws a distinction. Nobody is required to.
The year is 2008. Your doctor checks your cholesterol. Your LDL is elevated. You are prescribed a statin. Nobody mentions that the number needed to treat for primary prevention is approximately 250. Nobody mentions that the muscle deterioration you'll notice over the next two years is listed as a rare side effect rather than a documented pattern affecting a meaningful percentage of patients. The trial that informed the prescription was funded by the manufacturer.
Now it is today.
Your doctor has new guidelines. New studies. New consensus.
He is confident.
He has always been confident.
The confidence has never been the problem.
