Reporting from the Globe and Mail shows that Sam Jaber — Danielle Smith’s handpicked board member of Invest Alberta — has been allegedly claiming CPA designation, despite not being registered in Alberta. This is deeply concerning. Danielle Smith appointed this man to one of the most crucial boards in our province. Invest Alberta is critical to bringing good jobs and investment to our province, and needs to be led by the smartest businesspeople in the country, not friends and cronies of the Premier. Jaber has already stepped away from Invest Alberta because of his involvement in the CorruptCare scandal and his links to Sam Mraiche. This latest revelation is even more telling about his lack of qualifications for this position. The Premier chose Sam Jaber for this role. She appointed him. It’s now her responsibility to remove him from the board of Invest Alberta. theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

@jkenney @AdamZivo I agree there's an element of virtue signaling to these acknowledgments but the difference is in Alberta the entire province is covered by treaties so technically not unceded. Someone may argue the contrary.

It's not actually difficult. As an elected official, including as Premier, I never did land acknowledgments, unless speaking on a reserve, or to an indigenous ceremony / event. In those cases, I would simply say "thank-you for welcoming me to the x community," or "it's great to be here in the Treaty y area," etc.. In other words, basic courtesy, not an elaborate ritual of historical revisionism and humiliation. The only criticism of my approach came from manufactured media outrage stories. I never met an indigenous leader or person in Alberta who objected to my approach. This is much more about progressive virtue signalling than actual reconciliation. Formulaic secular liturgies do nothing to improve the lives of indigenous people. thestar.com/edmonton/no-in…

Land acknowledgements are bullshit and fundamentally about normalizing blood-and-soil nationalism. They pretend that North America rightfully belongs to one ethnicity, and that all other peoples, lacking an ill-defined “spiritual” connection to the continent, should perpetually be “grateful” for the “opportunity” to exist here. If European nations demanded that all non-Europeans regularly express gratitude for living on “traditionally European lands,” progressives would rightfully see this as unjust. Yet, they abandon their principles when it comes to Indigenous land acknowledgements because they are either too stupid, or too intellectually unprincipled, to see the contradiction here. Land acknowledgements should be purged from our institutions, and, to this end, no self-respecting conservative should perform them. The obvious exception would be at events that specifically concern the Indigenous community, and only if an acknowledgement uses wording that simply states historical facts without establishing a racial hierarchy of citizen legitimacy.
Don Bradshaw@RealDonBradshaw

When a Conservative Party @CPC_HQ Member of Parliament can’t do something as simple as a land acknowledgement, it tells you everything you need to know about this party’s stance on First Nations people. #FirstNations #cdnpoli

x.com/spaikin/status… If this were a Conservative politician, every mainstream media outlet would already be publishing hit pieces comparing him to Trump for questioning the election results and suggesting they were rigged. But you won’t hear word, because their boss endorsed him.

The research behind this is wild. Your kitchen sponge has the same density of bacteria as human stool. German scientists found 54 billion bacterial cells per cubic centimeter inside used sponges in 2017. Yours is sitting right next to your sink. Sponges are the perfect home for bacteria. They are wet, warm, full of food bits, and never fully dry between washes. Across all 14 sponges, the team found 362 different types of bacteria. The most common species include strains that can make people sick. In 2011, the public health group NSF International swabbed 30 things in 22 American homes. The dirtiest object in the entire house was the kitchen sponge. It was dirtier than the toilet seat. 75% of the sponges tested positive for the kind of bacteria that includes Salmonella and E. coli. Microwaving does not clean the sponge. The 2017 study found microwaved sponges had higher amounts of the smelliest, most harmful bacteria. Heat kills the weak strains. The strong ones survive and refill the sponge with no competition for space. A 2021 Norwegian study compared kitchen sponges to dish brushes. In brushes, Salmonella was wiped out within three days because the bristles dry out between uses. In sponges, bacteria climbed to about a billion cells per sponge. The lead researcher told CNN that one kitchen sponge can hold more bacteria than there are people on Earth. Three things actually work. Switch to a dish brush, because brushes dry fully between uses while sponges stay wet for hours. Replace your sponge every one to two weeks. Never leave it sitting wet in the sink. Norway and Denmark already do this by default, but most other countries don't. The detergent is fine. Your sponge is the problem.

@jkenney @FBI I reported this for a series I did for The Canadian Press almost 20 years ago. If anything it's gotten worse. Also, not well-known here is that Mexico also has a serious gun-smuggling problem across its US border.

Thank-you to the @FBI for this great police work. ~90% of gun violence in Canada involves firearms smuggled from the United States.
FBI New York@NewYorkFBI

FBI New York, @SDNYnews, @nyspolice, and @ATFNewYork announced the arrests of Malik Bromfield, Faizan Ali, and Kamal Salman, who are charged with attempting to smuggle nearly 90 firearms from the United States to Canada. "These three defendants, including two foreign nationals, allegedly endangered our communities as they attempted to smuggle 89 firearms - 17 of which were stolen - into Canada," said ADIC Barnacle. "The FBI is committed to working with our federal and state law enforcement partners to take illegal guns off our streets." Read more: justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/t…

The U.S. has spent billions to lose a war that enriches its oligarchs, impoverishes the citizenry, sabotages its alliances, and strengthens its enemies. Empires have risen and failed before, but to my knowledge no state has ever chosen to kill its own power. snyder.substack.com/p/on-superpowe…
