It is built for rapid movement, armored operations, and NATO exercises across Europe, with frequent deployments to Poland, the Baltics, and Romania. The change would directly reduce the permanently stationed U.S. armored presence in Central Europe, meaning fewer ready ground forces based in Germany to quickly reinforce NATO’s eastern flank in a crisis.

Trump is going to take 5 thousand if not more USA troops out of Germany because Germany doesn't seem to be a real ally of the USA, but that's not all. There may be higher tariffs too because Germany for all intents and purposes said Iran was 'humiliating' the USA (which is not true). President Trump has been critical of Germany's stances when America for the most part underwrites the nation’s defense even though Germany has partnered economically with adversarial nations like Russia and communist China. With friends like this, who needs enemies. Currently, Merz’s Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria are behind in the polls - The newer Alternative for Germany (AfD) is ahead in the polls by as much as 5 points - There is more and more dissatisfaction in the economy and continued problems with mass migration in Germany. Many if not most Americans think it would be better use of the USA troops here at home to help the DHS, border patrol and ICE do what has to be done.

The issue for Germany is these bases do both. Germany denying one, whatever reason, makes defending Germany a lower US priority than obtaining power projection bases in places like Morocco or Malta. Power politics works that way.🤷‍♂️
