Why are parents trapped into buying the books and uniforms from private school??? I spoke to so many parents and all said that even for Class 1 student, they have to spend almost 10,000 for both books and uniform!!! జూన్ 2020లో తమిళనాడులోని తూత్తుకుడి జిల్లాలోని శాతంకుళం పోలీస్ స్టేషన్‌లో పోలీసుల చిత్రహింసల వల్ల మరణించిన పి. జయరాం (58), అతని కుమారుడు జె. బెన్నిక్స్ (31) కేసులో తొమ్మిది మంది పోలీస్ ఆఫీసర్లు దోషులుగా మదురై కోర్టు తీర్పు ఇచ్చింది. వీరికి మార్చ్ 30 నాడు శిక్ష ఖరారు కానుంది. మొబైల్ ఫోన్ షాప్ నడుపుకునే ఈ తండ్రీ కొడుకుల్ని కోవిడ్ సమయంలో లాక్‌డౌన్ కర్ఫ్యూ వేళకు షాపు మూసేయలేదనే నెపం మీద అరెస్ట్ చేసిన పోలీసులు రాత్రంతా లాకప్‌లో చిత్రహింసలు పెట్టారు. వారిని కొట్టిన దెబ్బలకు స్టేషన్ గోడల మీద రక్తపు మరకలు కూడా అయ్యాయి. మరునాడు ఉదయం లేవలేని స్థితిలో, రక్తమోడుతున్నా తండ్రీ కొడుకులిద్దరినీ ఉదయం ప్రభుత్వ ఆసుపత్రికి తీసుకెళ్లి, అక్కడ రిమాండ్ కోసం ఆరోగ్యంగా ఉన్నారనే మెడికల్ సర్టిఫికెట్ తీసుకుని వారిని మెజిస్ట్రేట్ ముందు హాజరుపరిచారు. మెజిస్ట్రేట్ రిమాండ్ రాస్తే వారిద్దరినీ కోవిల్‌పట్టి జైలుకు తరలించారు. మరునాడే తండ్రి చనిపోగా, ఒక రోజు తరువాత కొడుకు కూడా గాయాల కారణంగా చనిపోయాడు. ఈ కేసు తమిళనాడులో సంచలనం సృష్టించింది. పౌరసమాజం ప్రతినిధులు, మీడియా, రాజకీయ నాయకులు ఈ లాకప్‌డెత్ కారకుల మీద కేసు నమోదు చేయాలని ఉద్యమించారు. తొలుత మద్రాస్ హైకోర్టుకు చెందిన మదురై బెంచ్ ఈ కేసును తనంతట తానే విచారణకు స్వీకరించింది. తదనంతరం కేసును సీబీఐకి అప్పగించారు. కేసు నమోదు చేసి సాక్షులను విచారణ చేసిన సిబీఐ పలు సాక్ష్యాలను సేకరించింది. సిసి టివీ ఫుటేజ్ పరిశీలించిన సిబీఐ అధికారులు అసలు ఆ తండ్రీ కొడుకులు కోవిడ్ కర్ఫ్యూ నిబంధనలు కూడా ఉల్లంఘించలేదని, పోలీసులు తప్పుడు కేసు పెట్టారనే విషయం కనుక్కున్నారు. తండ్రీ కొడుకులను లాకప్‌లో చిత్రహింసలు పెట్టడానికి వాడిన లాఠీలు, వారి వంటి మీద రక్తం తుడవడానికి వాడిన వస్త్రం మీద ఉన్న డిఎన్ఏ సరిపోల్చారు. బాధితుల వంటి మీద గాయాలు కూడా చిత్రహింసకు లోనైనట్టు ఉన్నాయి. అన్నిటి కన్నా ముఖ్యంగా అదేరోజు పోలీస్ స్టేషన్‌లో డ్యూటీలో ఉన్న ఒక మహిళా కానిస్టేబుల్ ఈ దారుణాన్ని చూసి కలత చెంది తన సహచర పోలీసులు ఎట్లా ఆ ఇద్దరు అమాయకులను రాత్రంతా బట్టలూడదీసి చిత్రహింసలు పెట్టారో సాక్ష్యం చెప్పింది. మొత్తం పది మంది పోలీసులు ఈ కేసులో నిందితులు కాగా, ఒక పోలీస్ విచారణ జరుగుతుండగానే కోవిడ్‌తో మరణించారు. ఆ తొమ్మిదిమంది నరరూప రాక్షసులకు కఠిన శిక్ష పడాలని కోరుకుందాం. పౌరహక్కుల గురించి ఇంత అవగాహన ఉన్న ఈ రోజుల్లో కూడా దేశవ్యాప్తంగా ఎందరో అభాగ్యులు ఇట్లా పోలీసుల చేతుల్లో లాకప్పుల్లో చిత్రహింసలకు గురై అన్యాయంగా మరణిస్తున్నారు. ఇందులో ఎక్కువగా పేదలు, బడుగు, బలహీన వర్గాలకు చెందిన వారు ఉండటం గమనార్హం.
