@HarryDIsraeli Obvs there’s ‘unseen’ income tax like employers NI contribution. But it’s an indirect tax, not direct.

@HarryDIsraeli Top rate is 45%, NI at that salary is 2%. Reduce your tax contribution by paying into a salary sacrifice pension. I’m in that top bracket *today*. My effective take home is 58% of my salary after all deductions. Or said the other way 42% total deductions. Guy is a cretin.

@MerrynSW Shows that Gary either can’t do maths, or didn’t understand his pay slip. I’m a top rate tax payer, even with NI, you’re not even close to 60%. If you have a salary sacrifice pension you can ‘save’ a bit of tax. Guy is a fraud or an idiot.

@PhilipProudfoot My god, you Green Party simps are so pathetically ignorant. It’s actually hilarious how stupid you lot are. Do any of you actually function and live in the real world? Or do you live in an actual bubble? 😆

This is going to result in a legal case against the Met for political interference during purdah. The swiftest thing would be for Mark Rowley to apologise. However, a big fat damages payment from the Met will certainly help the Greens rectify damage done.
Metropolitan Police@metpoliceuk

“Apprehending violent and dangerous criminals is a full contact and messy task which may appear shocking to observers with little experience of policing in the real world.” Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley writes to Zack Polanski.

Having seen a police officer give a kick to the head of a crazed attacker in Manchester airport, and another two examples today, one assumes this is no coincidence. Don't forget, officers are trained to deal with dangerous suspects. Many techniques are used.

@rationalaussie I mean, having one of those cushy white collar jobs now, having worked in construction and having worked inside data centres; I’m more than happy to do that over the day to day monotony of office work 😆

If you have a mortgage, and are in a white collar profession right now, you should take very seriously the prospect that you will be 'back to the mines' sooner than you think. Except this time the mines are data centre buildouts. The government will give you a job and allow you to defer mortgage payments indefinitely if you help them build out data centres. They will likely have massive training programs in place to facilitate this, to try to appease the disgruntled, previously high status white collar workers. I expect this to begin in 2028 and not end until we have robots building robots in the early 2030s. If you don't want to work in the mines to survive, you need enough money to not have to work until about 2032. After that we will be in an entirely new era. The interim period, however, is going to be both extremely volatile and extremely dangerous for everyone.

Co-signed under every word of this excellent post. AI adoption will skyrocket to levels that are unimaginable to us today if the labs are actually able to prove that the models can discover novel science. No amount of compute will be enough, and there will be tough decisions to make regarding compute allocation.

Le Car hasn't had a day off since I got it. First wash of the year for it. So easy with this paint finish. 1962 miles done at a cost of £26.68.

Algo no cuadra.

@Therichardralph Thanks. Maybe. 🤷‍♂️ Yeah I don’t know either. On one hand I can afford my remortgage increase quite comfortably. On the other hand it’s now even harder to leave a job which is slowly but surely destroying my soul.

I shared a perspective yesterday about being done with being comfortable after reaching a point where I am financially comfortable. I had a few comments that suggest I should just suck it up and be grateful for the lucky position I find myself in. 1st of all....it wasn't luck that got me to that place. Secondly....What a stupid suggestion.

My 6th grade daughter is reading Harry Potter, she finished the 6th book very late the other night so I was already asleep. I awoke to a post it on the kitchen counter: “Mom, Dumbledore died! I’m so sad. Love, Charlotte” This small note made my heart explode. Reading great books is magical and moving and heartbreaking. Thanks @jk_rowling for writing this world for kids to love and live in. Parents, too many kids today haven’t read all the Harry Potter books. Start reading this series with them. I promise it will be one of your most cherished memories.

Virtually every government intervention by the uniparty is designed to level out outcomes. There's something about the British psychology that simply cannot stand anybody doing better than themselves. Nobody is allowed to prosper by their own efforts - leading to an economy where more and more people simply opt out of the system entirely. We need flat tax and the abolition of the minimum wage.
Sonny@rawespresso

Every single tax milestone in the UK is designed to make sure trying harder isn't worth it. Earn £100,000? You're taxed at 62% on every extra pound until £125,140. Earn £50,270? Your tax jumps from 20% to 40%. Earn over £60K with kids? Your child benefit starts getting clawed back. The system is broken.

£80k job. Solid portfolio. Final-salary pension. On paper I’ve ‘made it’. In reality I’m bored out of my mind and watching my best years disappear into someone else’s spreadsheet. I’m not quitting tomorrow… but I’m done staying comfortable. Anyone else stuck in the same trap? Drop your story

If you know, letting your car idle after intense driving. Lets say you drove home for about 50 km's or 30 miles. As soon as you park up at home you shut off the engine. All of that heat you leave trapped in the engine which will eventually cause damage. Instead as soon as you park up, let your car idle for 1 - 3 minutes to let the coolant and oil cool turbos, engine down. Especially important on highly complicated cars like this BMW F10 M5, twin-turbo S63 V8, their most complex engine at the time.

@WeaponOutfitter Are you checking the rim? I had one truck that kept losing pressure on two tires. Turned out to be some corrosion on the rim. They sanded them and it was fine.
