Ayer hice que bajaran a una madre y a su hijo de 4 años de la sección de primera clase en un vuelo de 10 horas, y no me arrepiento ni un poco. Pagué una fortuna por un asiento en una zona que se promociona como exclusiva para el descanso, y apenas me senté, el niño empezó a patear mi asiento y a gritar porque no quería usar los audífonos. Cuando le pedí amablemente a la madre si podía controlarlo, me miró con desprecio y me dijo: "Es un niño, no puedo amarrarlo, ten un poco de empatía, seguro tú no tienes hijos". Tiene razón, no tengo hijos, y precisamente por eso trabajo 80 horas a la semana para poder pagar un viaje tranquilo lejos del caos. Llamé a la jefa de cabina y le dije que mi boleto garantizaba un estándar de servicio que no se estaba cumpliendo. Como el vuelo no estaba lleno en clase económica, pedí que los reubicaran a ellos o a mí (exigiendo un reembolso parcial). Al final, los movieron a ellos al fondo del avión. La mujer se fue llorando llamándome "clasista y odia-niños", y un par de pasajeros me miraron como si fuera un criminal. Yo pagué por silencio y comodidad, no para ser el soporte emocional de una madre que no sabe poner límites. ¿Ustedes creen que los niños deberían estar prohibidos en ciertas secciones de los aviones o yo soy el que está mal por exigir lo que pagué? @YIMBYman It's not pretty. They're way too close together, and they all look the same. The main issue is density: cramming that many people together always sucks. At least it's not apartments, though. Those are the real scourge.

Now that I watched it, you can modify it. So I would find a way to put a door to the backyard, and probably some sort of door and deck from the second story (for safety). My parents first house was that tiny. It was a one story, two bedroom house, where you could sit on the toilet with the door open, keep an eye on the food and watch TV at the same time. My father made improvements to the house (even adding an addition for another bedroom and separate living room), they sold the house to move into a bigger one. It's really how it should be. You shouldn't expect your first home to be huge and elaborate. You get a mortgage for a home like this, build credit you need to buy a better home later.

Builder's are increasingly building spec homes in DFW. We just toured an entire spec neighborhood being constructed at once. It was a sight to behold. If you're going to consider a spec, get in at the pre-drywall stage so you can get a thorough inspection done . In fact, no matter what stage the construction is at, get an immediate inspection done. It'll not only catch defects early but change the way your house is handled by the build team.

it blows my mind how inhospitable some flight attendants can be. I'm in the last row on the aisle on a @united flight. pre-takeoff, the two FAs behind me are standing around talking about vacations, etc - just killing time. I had an empty cup with ice, so I turned to see if I could get one of them to throw it away so I didn't have to hold onto it through takeoff. this female flight attendant turns to me with an inauthentic/condescending smile and puts her hand up to indicate "wait"... for several seconds. the other FA instantly turns, sees me with the cup, and immediately reaches over to take it and throw it away. she was also talking about how she's been flying for 20-something years. I'm sure you're getting jaded with the job but man, what happened to just being a nice person, especially when you're on the job and taking care of passengers is part of the job description?

My doctor was always 45 mins late, every visit. No apology it’s just "Take a seat." Last time I waited 1 hour 20 mins then I left. Then wrote a google review. I wasn’t mean but just honest: "Always late, brings a book."2 stars. He called me that night from his personal cell. "You think I'm late because I don't respect your time?" I said "...yes?"
