I never remember my generation, or the one before, decrying people who received the state pension as some sort of scrounger class. What has happened to people?

It does seem odd that so many people resent old folk who can’t work any more getting £200 a week, but don’t bat an eye that MPs get £2000 a week for doing nothing more than lining their own pockets and greasy backhand grifting. I guess it’s the old adage that if you keep people fighting amongst themselves, they’ll never fight the real enemy.

As the recipient of a state pension, could I thank all those still working (including myself) for collectively paying their taxes to fund it. Just as I did for your parents and/grandparents during my lengthy, and ongoing, working life. Something I did on the understanding that the system would continue to function, as it does. That’s how it works. 👍

@premnsikka @AtlanticGranny Life expectancy is falling across much of the UK, so the ‘we’re living longer’ argument no longer holds. The poorest, who live shorter lives, lose the most, while the wealthy retire earlier and live longer. This isn’t fairness, it’s inequality by design!!

UK state pension age starts rising to 67. France - 62 Millions will struggle to work, may get derisory benefits. Poor have shorter life, receive pension for fewer yrs. Rich retire whenever they want, have longer lives, receive pension for longer period bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@UKLabour This message resonates with the public. We need Doctors for the NHS to work. Employers need a fit and healthy workforce. The economy can't grow without health productivity.

We pay their wages, so MPs should pay their own bills. And we absolutely shouldn’t be paying for their energy bills in their second homes. The whole thing is a giant piss take.
