I have a friend in Montreal interested in starting a biotech with cool science and working products from their Ph.D., but their business plan is at the absolute most primordial early stages. Is there any place they could go to help understand how people found companies? Plz DM.

🎙️ On this week's episode of Tank Talks, I sit down with @rbellini, Co-Founder of BSQUARED Capital and former CEO of @BellusHealth for a powerful conversation about family, legacy, and resilience in biotech. We originally recorded this episode just two weeks before the sudden passing of his father, Dr. Francesco Bellini — known as “Mr. Biotech Canada.” After his passing, Roberto and I decided to re-record the episode as a heartfelt tribute to his father’s incredible impact on the Canadian biotech industry. This is the first time Roberto speaks publicly since his father's passing and opens up about: - Growing up with a front-row seat to the rise of Biochem Pharma and its $6B exit. - The highs and lows of leading Bellus Health, from near collapse to a $2B acquisition by GSK. - How BSQUARED Capital is helping shape the next generation of biotech innovators in Canada. - Lessons on leadership, perseverance, and the true meaning of legacy. This episode goes beyond business success — it’s about honouring a visionary, learning through adversity, and building something that lasts.

@BiotechCat @RobertLKruse @AppleHelix Sensory receptors disorders (pain, cough) can be tough trials to run. I still believe that Suze is active and better trial design/patient selection will help. Also, better getting this reality check in Ph 2 vs failing Ph 3.

IMPORTANT: If we want to encourage more transparency and openness from our biotech CEOs, we need to reward them for it.

Why do EIACEOs exist? Survival bias. Investors allocate capital to these CEOs and their projects. Many investors like the positivity particularly once their invested. I’ve been berated by an investor for talking about risks that they thought weren’t pertinent.

Being a Biotech CEO is a Tough Job Example #273 The Everything is Awesome CEO exists and fails to connect with investors for all the reasons that Josh Schimmer(@biotech1) lists in his Weekend Musing (below) but even the best CEOs struggle with communicating business challenges.🧵
