India is preparing to build its most advanced stealth frigates yet. 🇮🇳 8 warships. Around Rs 70,000 crore Entirely built in India. This is Project 17B, the Indian Navy’s next generation frigate program. 👇 • DAC cleared the project in 2024, RFP now being finalised • MDL and GRSE expected to build 4 warships each • Displacement rising from 6,700 tonnes to nearly 8,000 tonnes • VLS cells increasing from 32 to 48 for much heavier missile loadouts • Indigenous radar systems replacing major imported components • Armed with BrahMos, Barak 8 and future long-range strike systems • Indigenous content expected to rise beyond Project 17A levels Nilgiri class frigates already made the Indian Navy one of the strongest naval forces in the region. Project 17B takes that into an entirely different category.
