Blacks score 15 points lower on IQ but California made it illegal to test for. Military tests, job applicant data, and other major tests show the exact same gap. And they have for over 100 years. In 1979 Larry P. v. Riles ruled IQ tests were racially biased and banned them but only for Black students. Every other kid — White, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, whoever — still gets tested. Just not Black kids. People scream the tests are culturally biased or racist. But the data destroys that. The gap shows up before kindergarten, holds on culture-fair tests like Raven’s Matrices, survives controls for income, appears in massive datasets, and predicts real-world success equally well for every race. Asians outperform the average anyway. The truth is California would rather enforce race-based rules than accept politically inconvenient realities. An important thing to remember today.
