Disability rights are civil rights. Disability rights are human rights. In 1984, @NationalADAPT organized to demand wheelchair accessibility at South State and West Jackson Streets to pressure the @cta to install wheelchair lifts. Disability Pride Month is a reminder that accessibility is justice, inclusion is nonnegotiable, and people with lived experiences have always been leading change.

At a time when too many choose to look away, @RepRoKhanna chose to bear witness— to the occupation, settler violence, and suffering of Palestinians in the West Bank. I look forward to working with him to call for accountability, an end to the violence, and a future built on justice, equality, and genuine reconciliation for both Palestinians and Israelis. Excellent reporting by @jonahmv theintercept.com/2026/07/11/ro-…

@MikeLowwry In 2016, President Trump halted the process. In 2021, President Biden revived the process but it would take till 2030 to implement the security measures. That process has now been halted again.

After stalling the Harriet Tubman $20 bill in his first term, the Trump administration has now abandoned it altogether. Meanwhile, Treasury is working to create a new $250 bill featuring Trump’s image. Harriet Tubman risked her life to free others. Her legacy is courage, resilience, and service. Erasing progress on diversity, equity, and inclusion while elevating one man sends a powerful message about whose stories this administration chooses to celebrate. I won't stay silent while progress toward a more inclusive America is rolled back.

At midnight, the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act became law—despite President Trump holding the bill hostage and refusing to sign it. Families in IL-01 can't afford political games when housing costs are soaring, but President Trump would rather see Americans on the street than at the ballot box. npr.org/2026/07/10/nx-…

On July 10, 1966, more than 30,000 people gathered at Soldier Field as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. launched the Chicago Freedom Movement's campaign for fair housing and civil rights. The march that followed to City Hall demanded an end to housing discrimination, economic injustice, and systemic barriers that denied too many African Americans opportunity, security, and dignity. Sixty years later, the fight is far from over. From voting rights to affordable housing, economic justice to equal opportunity, the work continues. We honor those who had the courage to stand up to inequality and refuse to accept it as inevitable by continuing to fight for a country where everyone's rights are not just promised but protected.

As climate change brings more extreme heat, stronger storms, and increasingly unpredictable weather, investing in a modern, reliable energy grid is essential for communities across IL-01 and the nation. Today, on Lineworker Appreciation Day, we recognize the journeyman lineworkers who keep the power on for our homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses through every season and every challenge.⚡ And thanks to @IBEW for its unwavering commitment to safety, world-class training, and protecting the rights of lineworkers throughout their careers.

The American people were dragged into a reckless, illegal war with no clear strategy, no defined objectives, and no credible exit plan. Without any outcomes changed, they were promised a "deal" had been reached. Before they were even told what that deal looked like, President Trump declared the ceasefire "over." This not leadership—it's a recipe for another endless war. Congress already passed a bipartisan War Powers Resolution—not a blank check for war. The Administration must stop the escalation immediately, return to serious diplomacy, and work with Congress—not around it—to prevent another catastrophic conflict.

“Summer wasn’t just a season, it was a promise, that after working hard all year, ordinary Americans could afford a little freedom and a little fun.” Thank you @Groundwork for working to change economic policy and narratives and deliver true opportunity and prosperity for all.

Summer used to be a promise: After working hard all year, ordinary Americans could have a little fun and a little more freedom. But that promise is starting to slip out of reach.

Health insurance should protect you from medical debt, not cause it. Under this Administration, ACA premiums have doubled. Even tripled. Families are skipping coverage because they simply can't afford it. Healthcare is a human right. It's time to fix America's broken healthcare system by putting patients over profits.

Today, for the 34th straight year, @UN is debating the U.S. embargo against Cuba. How many more decades will we cling to a failed Cold War policy that hurts ordinary Cuban families? The Trump Administration must immediately end the economic asphyxiation of Cuba and enter real negotiations that provide dignity and freedom for the Cuban people. Cubans deserve to know the generosity of the American people and to live with hope for the future.
