We decided to do this the instant we tied down all three available carriers in the Gulf, expended mucho ammo shooting at mountainsides, and got ourselves into an oil crisis we are now begging China to resolve. The Middle East is simultaneously the core of our empire and its executioner. We are dying on that hill (or that patch of water).

So we’re abandoning Taiwan in order to kiss the ass of Chicoms who are simultaneously stealing our shit and financing our enemies

Absent a U.S. boots-on-the-ground invasion and occupation, it’s clear Iran will win this war. It will emerge with more influence in the Gulf than it had before the war started, and control over the Strait of Hormuz will give it an economic advantage it never enjoyed in the past.

@UVA August 1979 I brought my 12 guage Remington 1100 into my dorm. 2 weeks later went on a dive hunt. Deer hunted a few months after that. It’s sad to think I’d be a felon today. It’s not the guns, it’s the culture. Short cuts will never work. This legislation is a shortcut.

New: Classified military intelligence assessments from early this month show Iran has regained access to most of its missile sites, launchers and underground facilities. Including: U.S. intel assesses Iran has restored operational access to 30 of the 33 missile sites it maintains along the Strait of Hormuz, and ~90% of Iran's underground missile sites are "partially or fully operational." w @Adamentous @maggieNYT nytimes.com/2026/05/12/us/…

@RodDMartin I hate to break it to you, but under the Hague Conventions if you provide bases to wage war you're a co-belligerent and legitimate target. Having direct engagement by the UAE only makes Iran look better & more justified in their attacks under Geneva as well.

🧵 BREAKING: The UAE Strikes Iran! Iran has hammered the UAE. Now Abu Dhabi is striking back — covertly, decisively, and without a word publicly. Some reports even suggest UAE special forces may be on the ground in Iran. This changes everything. Thread 🧵🔥

@RepShontelBrown Good! You go fight boogeymen that don’t exist. Normal conservative Americans, of all colors, are sick of this shit. Tell me Shontel, is the undermining of a branch of government to achieve a political result ok with you? If it is, know you are the problem.

@ElaineLuria you’re perfectly fine with Hakeem proposing the total undermining of a co-equal branch of government for political purposes but you mask your sedition by objecting to a colloquialism that is as old as the South. Btw, blacks weren’t the only ones that picked cotton.

@KurtSchlichter It’s kind of retarded that the focus is on the use of an age old placeholder without a specific meaning rather than what the perpetrator was proposing: total devaluation of a co-equal branch of government for political advantage. He’s out of his cotton picking mind.

The racist comments proudly endorsed today by Jen Kiggans warning House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to ‘Get your cotton-picking hands off of Virginia’ are disgusting and beneath any elected official. I grew up in the South. I know what these racist dog whistles mean.

@citrinowicz @BarakRavid The US is and has been in direct conflict with Iran. Iran has its army, but no Air Force or navy. If they have no targets to shoot at, what good is it. Pres Trump said this morning his advisors thought Kurds would intervene but he thought not. They’re now on plan C.

The administration still fundamentally misunderstands the Iranian regime. @BarakRavid reported that White House officials were surprised by Tehran’s response to President Trump because the message they received through mediators was supposedly very different. But what exactly did they expect? Did they really believe the Iranian regime, at a moment when it feels strategically confident, assumes Trump is under greater pressure than they are, and believes it still controls a critical artery of the global economy through the Strait of Hormuz, would suddenly agree to abandon uranium enrichment, curb its missile program, or stop supporting its regional proxies? The gap between how parts of the administration perceive the Iranian regime and the reality of how the regime actually thinks is becoming impossible to ignore. That disconnect is creating growing frustration inside the White House, but more importantly, it reflects a deeper problem: there are no good options left. If Trump is unwilling to move toward a deal close to Tehran’s terms, unwilling to launch a broader military campaign, and impatient with the slow results of maritime pressure and economic containment, then what exactly remains besides another confrontation around the Strait of Hormuz? one that would almost inevitably escalate into direct U.S.-Iran conflict? Iran will not voluntarily surrender its leverage over the Strait. That is a core strategic assumption in Tehran. The administration needs to become far more realistic about the nature of the regime. It must break out of the echo chamber of advisers who either fear telling the president the truth, do not understand Iran, or continue to believe that maximum pressure alone can force capitulation. Anyone who has seriously studied the Islamic Republic understands a basic reality: the regime has no intention of surrendering, regardless of what Trump says or does. Iran’s tolerance for economic pain is extraordinarily high. If the objective is genuine strategic change, then regime change would be required. Every other option may inflict pain and disruption, but it will not fundamentally alter Iran’s long-term strategic behavior, though it will almost certainly impose enormous costs on the global economy. That is the reality. Pretending otherwise does not make it less true. #IranWar#iran

Here’s the investigation we should have: Who decided to hit 15,000 targets and have so little to show for it except the tragic loss of 13 American servicemembers, higher gas prices for American families, and a depleted stockpile of critical munitions? to.pbs.org/4wsy4sc
