@TurnipRail As well as smaller homes, there is no where for younger people to get involved. Model railway clubs meet late on weekday evenings, so become old men's clubs. If you want the hobby to develop, you need to bring in the younger generations.

The model railway world is in crisis. Hattons closing and Warley stopping indicate something worrying.
When you pay £300 for a loco, but can't find Hornby products in The Entertainer, it suggests problems.
Changing demographics is a factor, but the issue runs deeper than that.

@DriverPotter Acquiring, yes. Preserving? Maybe, but that depends on ongoing funding, a suitable home and enthusiastic people. This is where a number of multiple unit campaigns have fallen down.

@JoanneMCrompton It's sickening to see comments on other enthusiast forums, referring to @Joanne as a "girl" & that, with no reports of other volunteers leaving the ELR, she must have contributed to the problem herself! Such misogynistic comments don't look good for the heritage railway industry.

1/ I've never made a secret of my earlier years. I lived in the care system, I was a troubled child, often doing things shouldn't, mainly due to negative influence, lack of adult guidance & structure.
For people to try & use that against me today to blacken my name is just foul

Because fear was all that was motivating them. They have to relearn how to want.
