Even before LeBron, Giannis went to Miami, Hali is returning, Wiz got Trae, AD, and Dybantsa.
No matter if Brown had gone, Philly was ahead of us already. And so was Boston.
Now do the returning champs, the returning 1 seed, ECF Cavs, and the team that beat our ass by a million on national tv to get to the playoffs.
Outside of trading for Giannis (who didn’t want to come here), or Jaylen Brown (also didn’t want to come here), what move has you competing with all that?

The Hornets are objectively worse than they were at the end of last season. I see both sides of moving on from LaMelo. However, Naz, Grayson, Royce and draft picks ain’t enough for me. You can tell me this is “different” but every ownership says that.

I don’t think we have any intention of competing this year, so with that in mind I’m Shröder or no one.
Shröder’s value is outsized to the Hornets as a German to help mentor CAJ and Hannes.
I think I’d rather Tre Mann get minutes instead of anyone else here (not joking).

@Mikethejohnson And they didn’t even try to put a competitive roster around him. That literally only happened by making more draft picks. They didn’t add a single veteran to help him other than the guy who they acquired to replace him and downgrade.

The Hornets love selling their fans lottery tickets. Jeff constantly talks about not skipping steps, but how can you have championship aspirations without getting into the playoffs first?
I also cant stand this often repeated narrative of "Lamelo hasnt made the playoffs in 6 years" as if thats a reflection of Lamelo and not the organization. People are mad because the organization never tried to build a roster around him. The second they actually put a competitive roster around him, he delivered.
I dont think this was about money, I think the real issue with keeping Lamelo was that would have came with expectations and for whatever reason Jeff isnt ready for that.

If the argument for trading LaMelo is “Miller and Kon need more touches”, that’s a truly horrible argument. They are markedly worse with LaMelo off the floor and lack 1st option on-ball ability. Also it’s not “all those picks”; it’s one pick, and 3 fake swaps.

The Hornets have been linked to Dennis Schröder, but there may be a younger (and much cheaper) backup guard who makes even more sense.
Brandon Williams is still available, and the numbers suggest Charlotte should take a serious look:

Josh Giddey and LaMelo are similar in play style. LaMelo is more score first but they both have a fluency of the game a lot of other PGs don’t have. Coby White doesn’t have that same feel. It’s that feel that made the Hornets offense run smoothly. Hopefully he can adapt.
