Ok, whether you’re pro- or anti-Epstein, I think there’s one thing we can all agree on: This photo goes hard as hell. They look like they’re about to drop the most revolutionary synth pop album of all time.

@MDSebach Turns out the Napoleonic Wars actually took the form of water balloon fights and dance-offs. Cromwell seized power through a cunning use of pizza parties.

John Galt's Plumber, Capitalist
Capitalism is the only system that bans physical coercive force from all social relationships, allowing individuals to freely and voluntarily act according to the judgment of their own minds, in pursuit of their own happiness. Capitalism is not only the most productive system, it's the only just system - the only one that treats men as they ought to be treated: as sovereign, thinking individuals who have a right to chart their own course in life, owing no unchosen obligations to anyone.

@Mayoveli Labor-intensive industry is more profitable than fixed capital-intensive industry. Investment does not tend to be drawn to projects like this without central planning.

This cost them about $1 trillion. The truth is, you cannot build systems like this exclusively on the logic of profit. You cannot expect to break even in 20 or 30 years. Projects of this scale are built because the government decides they must exist to serve the people. And this is a problem with systems that are strictly, or overwhelmingly, capitalist. If you leave every problem in your society to the spontaneity of the market, some challenges are so large and so unprofitable that you will never have sufficient incentive to solve them.

@SidorowSlava I've been discovering Soviet entertainment but after the early 1980s it is not as good. I thought the 1980s Stalingrad movie was boring, not as good as the old black & white one from Stalin's time. Soviet 80s synth pop music is not as good as 70s VIA, in my opinion. Perestroika?

@patriach2051 I am sympathetic to this sentiment, but the CPC rightly recognizes that Soviet hegemonism and bloc politics led to the Sino-Soviet split and the defeat of 20thc socialism. The Chinese and Free Koreans know what they're doing.

@PeterMcCormack The business "owner" isn't the problem. The problem is the ever-expanding cloud of monopolists and rent-seekers who extract value at every opportunity -- credit card companies, landlords, logistics companies and, ultimately, financial speculators.

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

@viulenny @bidetmarxman Note that despite the persistent lies by "patriotic socialists" they aren't actually indicating that anyone should ever vote for bourgeois parties. These tactical moves have always been tightly issue-bound, with parameters set by the Marxists, afaik.

@bidetmarxman I generally agree with your point. The cadre needs to decide where that line is. I also personally see this case as a mistake on their part. They need to draw a clear line. Though I still feel like this particular case is being blown out of proportions. She's insignificant.

@BielskiBoy @bidetmarxman Did Mark Ruffalo help organize the Minneapolis general strike? Is he teaching classes on Lenin? Marcy subsituted geopolitics for class analysis, but it's not difficult to recognize a hierarchy of contradictions rather than denying all but the primary, as he essentially did.

@mindtrumpslove @jccfergie @DillieHoliday Corporate rule depends on trusting individuals. We're supposed to just pray that billionaires, financial speculators and CEO's will do what is good for humanity but bad for their profits. Scrooge would have gone out of business if he'd kept giving away roast geese or whatever.

@endtoempire Lenin specifically counter-indicates the fetishization of specific tactics, pro or con. Anarchists believe we are all going to go out in the street and punch and kick the police and military until the state collapses. Human wave attacks don't work.

PSL & The People’s Forum and DSA & Jacobin - all share primary tenets as The Compatible Left. PSL operates permitted protests with the local police, recruiting members to support candidates in settler-colony elections as “Marxist-Leninists”. DSA are keffiyeh-wearing Democrats.

@bidetmarxman @viulenny In a world where fascists are engaged in a genocide and a very small portion of the population are committed, educated Marxist-Leninists. Note that this is in a mass context, not a vanguard context. If people like her are speaking at party events, that's damning.

@viulenny What edge is being walked? Where is the line between “Popular front tactics” and just outright courting the enemy? In what world can a popular front be found with people who are openly and unapologetically pro-imperialists?

@viulenny @bidetmarxman I'm prepared to judge more harshly if a recording or transcript of the event is shared. Tactically allowing a liberal to speak about the repression of anti-genocide protests is valid concrete class struggle. But did they allow her to get on stage and condemn Hamas?

@bidetmarxman I think this would be in the ballpark of the party's response. TPF and all these other orgs are party-adjacent orgs for exactly this reason. Though I agree it's walking on an edge of falling into tailism. x.com/i/status/20498…
roger s@roger_s_84

@BielskiBoy @bidetmarxman Popular front tactics are not tailism. This was not a PSL party meeting. When we "platform" (to use the liberal moral term) Mark Ruffalo for calling for a ceasefire, or Medea Benjamin for sending aid to Cuba, we aren't ceding control to them.

@BielskiBoy @bidetmarxman I'm not a party member. I used the term "we" to refer to the revolutionary working class movement in general. And "marcyite" is an irrelevant slur.
