@kareemisposting they’re gonna get elected because they were propped up by the mayor. you obviously can’t point to a significant record or ties to the district as the reason. it’s still a “backroom deal”, you just happen to like the people in the room.

It’s pretty shocking for reynoso to loudly declare his preference for back room deals so openly. I’m going to vote for the candidate who is chosen by the people not in private
Peter Sterne@petersterne

Reynoso is all but saying publicly what has been widely understood but never quite said aloud: Nydia Velázquez wanted Julia Salazar or Tiffany Cabán to succeed her, seeing them as compromise candidates who were part of both her movement and NYC-DSA (the mayor's political home).

@artangeIs @treeaston Same way Stevens and McMorrow camps should take this poll seriously, so should El-Sayed’s.

@indiemusicfan4 @aaronnarraph maybe the most important power to stand up to is congressional republicans and throwing a temper tantrum that produces no tangible change is a waste of energy?

@dieworkwear where do you stand/what do you reco re: backpacks and Ralph Lauren-y aesthetics (so more ivy I guess). I’d rather avoid them but the reality is your back is too important to suffer with a heavy tote/messenger for too long

Whenever someone gives a style rule, you should consider their conditionals. What is their rule conditional upon? There are good reasons why you shouldn't wear a backpack. If you're wearing a suit or sport coat, slinging a heavy bag across your shoulders for a long time can distort the careful shaping that goes into a tailored jacket. Now, if your suit is from Shein, it doesn't matter, since the jacket wasn't made with that much care in the first place. However, if you use a Savile Row tailor, then you're just throwing money away, as you've paid this skilled tailor to create this beautiful shoulder line, only to ruin it over time. However, if your style is inspired by 1970s hiking and outdoor lifestyles — what is sometimes called "Rugged Ivy" because it was the Midwestern counterpart to the blazers and loafers worn on Ivy League campuses — then a backpack is perfectly fine. We can see the style inspiration in slide one and how the look would manifest itself today in slide two. However, executing this well requires you to find the right backpack, which means one that shares a similar design language. We can see appropriate backpacks for such wardrobes in slide three (see how they all borrow from a 1970s outdoor gear design language). When you put everything here together — the original style inspiration, the clothing design language, and the backpack language — you get a coherent wardrobe. The only question is whether it suits your personality and lifestyle. That is a question only you can answer. Many men today dress in a way that's more similar to slide four: polo shirts, techy quarter zips, slim chinos, dress sneakers, and sometimes a fancy watch. If your aim is to gain the trust of a bank loan officer, then congratulations, you have achieved your goal. I personally find this aesthetic to be visually unpleasing, but it's a free country and people can wear whatever they want. I don't think it matters whether you carry a backpack or briefcase because the entire aesthetic is ugly to me. Nearly every single style-related debate on here — "can men wear shorts?" or "can men wear sneakers" — is conditional on such factors. What are some original source materials that inspire you? How would elements of that design language be used today? Does this aesthetic fit with your lifestyle and personality? And so forth. We live in a liberal, multicultural world today. It's no longer the case that White Anglo Saxon Protestants who can trace their lineage back to the Mayflower dictate the "proper" modes of dressing and speaking. Thus, the best way to learn about style is to pay attention to culture, both historical and present, and have an open mind.

@LinkofSunshine My read on him is that he’s evolved from the NIMBY days, as have many progressives. Is there recent evidence that he’s still NIMBY?

Antonio Reynoso is a true NIMBY, it's very impressive And by that I mean he's not "no housing anywhere", his actual policy position is "upzone everywhere except my backyard in Bushwick" He supports ending parking minimums, SFZ, he's pro-upzonings, but no housing in Bushwick

I think the leftists criticizing the Dems over this situation are doing so because they are emotionally invested in believing a lie (that the two parties are the same and it was brave and cool to vote Jill Stein) and the worse Trump gets, the more invested in the lie they are.
Rania Khalek@RaniaKhalek

Why is there no one in the U.S. government stepping up to stop this insanity? The president of the US is openly threatening genocide against a country of 90 million people, saying “a whole civilization will die tonight.” No mass resignations and the opposition party is absent. What sick death cult. Unbelievably and shockingly dangerous.

@pjlavish @BetterR0ads @News12BX let’s be honest here, this place is very similar to a lot of Dominican cake spots you’ll see throughout the Bronx and the heights. this is not a destination. Blaming the bike lane for bad business without evidence is very convenient cover for just not wanting a bike lane.

@rationalyankee @jameshall1113 So he didn't bring a weapon to confront agents? He didn't end up fighting with them? Why are you ok with Democrats releasing violent criminals into the community? You do realize if they turned them over at jail after an arrest when ICE requests then none of this would happen?

I wish it was still shocking to me how many people will watch the video of the murder, then watch the administration try to explain it away and try do deny that they’re just being lied to. I think deep down everyone knows they’re being lied to, but it’s hard for some to say it out loud to themselves. But now is the time. It’s ok to be in favor of immigration enforcement or any other conservative values and still have an issue with what’s happening in MN. We don’t have to agree on everything. It’s America. Nobody ever agrees on everything. But if we can’t agree that ICE’s actions in MN are wrong, unnecessary and likely criminal then it’s not even worth trying to change your mind. At that point, we’re just doomed. And that’s how I feel right now.

Jersey City can't be a place where it's easier to build a highrise than to celebrate Filipino culture on our streets. We ran a campaign for the people, not the powerful. Now we're governing that way too.
