@beeeemooooo Have you tried Parking Garage Rally Circuit? The physics there would suit you as well as the uncapped boost limit for a higher skill ceiling.

The one thing Choro Q Works, a 21-year-old Choro-Q game, did better than racing games today... the driving physics.

@adidaskote It would be interesting if he went smaller scale and expanded upon Slashout, Spikeout, Monkey Ball or Daytona rather than copycat Yakuza.

Started playing La-Mulana. Im only three hours in, but it's absolutely incredible so far. It has the same sort of secret hunting that I love from Metroid, except instead of your reward being a few extra missiles, you get the spear that pierced Jesus.

@sustainuntruth The level geometry seems also very tame compared to what was on offer in previous games single player modes. The existence of the tank might point to a certain rigid design they will have to follow...

Pragmata's gameplay loop is so incredibly cool it suddenly makes sense why they spent 6 years trying to make this concept work as well as possible. Surprised nobody else has tried this before to my knowledge.

@TelevisualWord Spending some last days in drone Sims I would say that DRL has the best beginner training program and Liftoff has way easier and simpler race tracks than Uncrashed.

@rose_phantasm Thanks for your detailed responses! Interesting stuff, hadn't heard of the haptic angle before. There's a general notion that gaming is better the more direct one's control is, but physicality such as this and input precision itself (steering etc) is something to appreciate, too.

Hopping on the 3x3 sharing trend but I'm not using the new site, real ones stick with topsters Dodonpachi DOJ and Final Fight are likely to end up here but I'd feel like a poser if I listed them before finishing the 1cc

@SaltSudoku It lacks the forest but otherwise the Rain on the PlayStation 3 is nice for capturing this atmosphere.

@joeviewtiful22 @CiaKids Replaying it today I was surprised with how some spaces were unusually open and not pristine prepared to be played in for a 3rd person shooter. The last level had a great run of constantly changing sizes from big areas to narrow ones.

@CiaKids I didn't want to bloat the thread too much and just focus on describing the broad experience and let some of my mutuals pics that I linked to show that but yes it is one of the most intricate 3D urban environments you're presented with from beginning to end

In the 7th gen there were many games trying to advance the medium by trying to "say something" with stock 3rd person shooter gameplay. In most cases, these come across as really forced or maudlin, but I think Kane & Lynch 2 succeeds by focusing on a mood and delivering

@rose_phantasm Oh, well, about that... x.com/exceedorbit/st… I don't like for Answer at all to be honest. The limitations and heft of 4 were removed and to me it became a game that is not longer fun to simply move around in. The biggest crime.
val@exceedorbit

@Remyzk For Answer leans far more into the power fantasy element 4 propped up, to more or less disastrous results. Booster agility was dramatically ramped up (will touch on this later.) Maps have been expanded into a far more monotonous array of lifeless empty deserts as a result.

@exceedorbit Nice. AC4FA escapes the power fantasy criticism because it still retain a modicum of actual vehicle control? What makes it work in your opinion?

@rose_phantasm I quite like Version Three! But that's more because it's a direct clone of Armored Core 3. My hiccup with recent Mecha titles is that I really just like *vehicular combat* far more than I do straight action. I've never been into the power fantasy and that's about all of them now

@TelevisualWord A bit on the side: Another interesting step in this sphere are such haptic jackets that would attune you to the virtual environment. I can see them being a detriment thou while trying to be in an more experimental state of drone flying training.

@TelevisualWord Getting a controller is the first step and then just getting the hours in. The instincts that you learn on simulators I doubt are very different from the ones acquired in a real world.

@Niflheimm155983 I have yet to spend in it as much time as in other arcade games but I adore its user experience. Short, packed runs, practice mode that lets me train granularly and then the randomness on display during the runs making for freshness every time.
