@0UrsaMajor0 @the_transit_guy @bryanrbeal yeah no. brightline was +13.3 million in FY25m. The loss stuff is when you are counting depreciation of assets as an accounting practice rather than raw operational ins/outs

Brightline’s financial troubles are all about the debt it incurred in building out its service. It’s viable in operations. Either we need more government subsidy for the initial infrastructure, or land value capture to make this model work
RAIL Magazine@RAILMag

Brightline under-reported truth in 3…2…1… The company has not had trouble attracting riders. March was its highest ridership month ever. It’s because it’s saddled with capital debit from building the operation. Debt that is assumed by the government for public passenger rail.

Private passenger rail will never work in this country if said operator needs to spend billions building said systems. The only way it will work is if the government either owns or pays for the infrastructure, and they operate on it via a lease.

@RAILMag EBTIDA was positive last year too. The mountain of debt is a massive issue and shows why gov $ for infrastructure is required

@the_transit_guy @engele brightline is operationally profitable/sustaining. the issue is the mountain of debt because passenger railroads building their own infrastructure as a model doesn't work

@alanthefisher the bailout headling is really misleading. it's based on them looking for investors or debt for equity swaps not federal/state $

@ajlamesa They are currently operationally profitable (13m ish in 2025) they just are sinking under massive debt because they built their own tracks

The stations are extremely overbuilt and service is relatively slow and infrequent on trains that can't accommodate enough riders to be profitable (not that there is enough demand to fill them anyway).

1 of 2 things could be happening here for Georgetown basketball: 1. Ed has completely lost control 2. We have guys coming in and sort of pushing some out I’m leaning towards one unfortunately.

Two things can be true: 1. This sport is absolutely wrecked, and needs serious, urgent reform. 2. Ed Cooley is in a lot of trouble as he aims to build a tournament-caliber roster for Year 4.

Georgetown center Julius Halaifonua has entered the transfer portal, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @CBSSports. The 7-foot, 260-pounder is a former top 60 overall recruit who posted averages of 9.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this past season.

I am getting very close to being out on college basketball & it’s heartbreaking. And honestly it’s not JUST a Cooley thing, I just don’t know that I can care if players leave every single year & that’s become the norm for most programs

@HoyaOptimist33 We currently have between $9-10M which puts us behind PC's $12M and in the middle of pack in the Big East. There is a NIL fundraising push underway, with the goal of getting us in the $11-12M range. There are some very wealthy alums (who own sports teams) who have yet to help.
