Indian oil refiners have splurged on Russian crude in the last two months and expect to continue buying lots for the rest of the year. In March, India imported 1.98m b/d of Russian oil, the highest since June 2023, according to @Kpler data. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…



The question, economically, is whether protecting consumers completely is the wisest choice. If price pass through is artificially stalled => demand doesn’t adjust => current account deficit widens => rupee pressure persists => feeds to further capital outflows/ feeds to inflation / feeds to pressure on interest rates. So while protecting consumers is importance, gotta judge how far that’s prudent (if crisis lasts). Tough choices.
