I can’t wrap my head around American lower and middle class people thinking free healthcare, universities, and public services would HURT them financially? Literally allowing the billionaire class to flourish with YOUR tax dollars. It’s delusional.

@RepMarkPocan So we just let something unconstitutional continue so we can meet a bureaucratic deadline? Wow that is one bizarre take.

Ballots were already in voters' hands in Louisiana, yet the Supreme Court still threw out its own 32-day waiting period to ram through a gerrymander. At this point, there is no doubt that they are not just putting their finger on the scale, but acting as an arm of the Republican Party. democracydocket.com/news-alerts/su…

We are being tested like never before. We face an assault on our democratic values unlike anything we have seen in our lifetimes, and it's our job to safeguard those values during these unprecedented times. To our clerks and election officials, California is grateful for your service.

@mouvement33 @Mistie_Mo Well if it is true that he has as many failed businesses as President Trump that amounts to 6. Of course President Trump's failures leave him with a 98.8 success rate. Out of curiosity, what's your business success rate?

He does not live in that trailer. He lives with his parents rent-free because he doesn't have a job. He can't rebuild because he couldn't even afford the mortgage before his house burned down. He has as many failed businesses as Trump. He has to live in LA to run for mayor, so he bought the trailer, put it on his property, then claimed he lived there. He has lived in a mansion in Santa Barbara...about 4 hours north of LA...for years. I don't think this type of person would be good for the people in LA.

@data_atx I guess it would make no sense to just give Alen Graham the money to complete the work he is already implementing with private funds to provide 1400 actual homes for up to 1900 people. Of course we wouldn't need a homeless director or department, so yea that doesn't make sense.

Austin's homelessness director wants to build a new $150 million 1,200 bed shelter The $25m for homelessness in the bond will go to some planning of this. He has been talking to a few high net worth individuals whom he says are really interested in contributing 👀

While the billionaires get much richer, 60% of working class Americans struggle to afford food or housing. Millions are losing healthcare. Yes. The very rich should start paying their fair share of taxes. That’s why I support the California Wealth Tax on billionaires.

@Weinsteinlaw I agree with your part about the pattern being unmistakable and repulsive, people like you always play some BS race card. It isn't about jefferies race, it's his rhetoric.

The pattern is unmistakable and repulsive. If you keep calling Black leaders "low IQ," you aren't expressing a political disagreement. You are using a racist dog whistle to undermine their humanity. Every single time Donald Trump uses this slur, he shows the country that his politics are built entirely on grievance and bigotry. It’s a disgrace to the office and a stain on this country.

Dr. Rubeliz Bolivar Barrios was completing her residency in South Texas when ICE locked her away. Her colleagues call her Ruby. They say that as an emergency and trauma doctor, she serves every patient with empathy and dedication. Being bilingual, she makes people feel seen and heard. In the middle of a healthcare provider shortage in the Rio Grande Valley, it is unthinkable that ICE would keep Ruby locked away. Her 5 year-old daughter Milena and husband need her home. Her patients need her too. ICE should release Dr. Barrios immediately and allow her to continue her work helping people.

@yassaminansari completely and utterly false. This ruling is actually the opposite of what OP states, don't let her gaslight you. This removes color completely from determining voting districts meaning everyone's vote counts equally.

This Supreme Court decision will devastate Black, Latino, and communities of color across the country. Their ruling effectively guts the Voting Rights Act, undermines decades of work that civil rights leaders put their lives on the line for, and lets states silence votes that don't work in their favor. And with the midterms around the corner -- it's clear who this ruling will hurt and who it will help.

For decades, a good paying union job was the pathway to the American Dream, but the corruption of Greg Abbott and the donors he works for took that dream from us. As governor, I’ll fight to build a state where Texans can afford to dream again.

Disappointed Waymo didn’t show up to yesterday’s Public Safety & Mobility meeting. People deserve transparency when it comes to safety on our streets. This isn’t partisan, it’s public safety. Reach out to your reps and to Waymo. Accountability only happens if we demand it.

Been seeing a lot of posts about moving to Texas. The word Texas comes from Tejas, a Caddo Indian word for friends. We will welcome you. But in the spirit of that friendship, come with an open mind and heart. We have a lot of opportunities available and will gladly share them, but you need to be willing to buy into what we built. Do not bring California or NYC politics here. You are fleeing them for a reason. They are not welcome here and will serve no purpose but to destroy what we, and our ancestors, have grown. There are plenty of great things about this state... Don't try to ruin them

Yesterday, the Supreme Court's conservative majority did something that voting rights advocates have feared for years: they weakened Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, one of the last major pillars of 60 years of civil rights progress. Section 2 was how we ensured Black, Latino, and other minority communities had a real shot at electing representatives who reflect their priorities. Now, to challenge a discriminatory map, you have to prove intentional discrimination. That is an almost impossible bar to clear. The Congressional Black Caucus could lose 30% of its membership as a direct result. Within hours of the decision, Republicans in Florida, Louisiana, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi are already having conversations about redrawing maps. Partisan gerrymandering was already out of control. This decision just took the guardrails off completely. We have to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and establish independent redistricting commissions nationwide, and we need to do it now.

Here’s how you flip a “gotcha” question on race into reality: Americans don’t want quotas. They don’t want optics. They want results. The kind of representation this country actually demands is simple: QUALIFIED.
MeidasTouch@MeidasTouch

.@PabloReports: There's been a lot of talk how there won't be any Black Republican members in the new term. What do you make of that? Hunt: Nothing. I don't understand how that's relevant. I don't care how many Black people are here.
