A coordinated multidisciplinary operation involving the Limpopo’s Provincial Tracking Team, investigators, and private security partners led to the successful arrest of two male suspects and the seizure of illicit cigarettes valued at approximately R140,000.
Acting on intelligence, authorities identified two vehicles: a silver Chevrolet Captiva and a white Suzuki MPV, suspected of transporting illicit cigarettes from Zimbabwe into the Mopani area.
The vehicles were spotted between Tzaneen and Letsitele.
When the suspects became aware of police presence, they attempted to evade arrest, triggering a high-speed chase.
Law enforcement members pursued the vehicles and eventually brought them to a stop in Letsitele.
A search of the vehicles uncovered 15 master boxes of illicit Remington Gold cigarettes.
The two suspects, aged 27 and 42, were arrested and charged with possession of illicit cigarettes as well as contravention of the Immigration Act after being identified as illegal immigrants.
They are expected to appear before the Letsitele Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 April 2026. Police investigations are ongoing, with authorities working to determine the broader network behind the smuggling operation.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat illicit trade and dismantle criminal syndicates operating across provincial and national borders.

Suspects Open Fire on SAPS and SANDF in Musina Before Fleeing Across Border to Zimbabwe After High-Speed Chase Over Stolen R700,000 Toyota Prado
Members of SAPS and SANDF in Musina recovered a stolen vehicle following a high-speed chase and shootout with suspects who fled across the border into Zimbabwe on Friday morning, 17 April 2026, at around 09:00.
Police received an alert from a tracking company about a vehicle stolen in the Krugersdorp policing area in March 2026. The grey Toyota Prado was reportedly speeding toward the river on the western side of the Musina borderline, prompting an immediate response and coordinated pursuit.
As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects opened fire on SAPS and SANDF members, leading to a shootout. The suspects later abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, crossing the river into Zimbabwe while continuing to fire shots. Zimbabwean authorities were alerted and conducted a search, but no arrests were made.
The stolen vehicle, valued at approximately R700 000, was successfully recovered and seized by authorities. Police confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing as efforts continue to trace and apprehend the suspects.

[RAPE OF A 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN DOBSONVILLE]
Tshepo Ntsimane (56), an uncle to a 13-year-old victim, is expected to appear before the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court again on 14 April 2026 for a formal bail application, following his first court appearance last week Wednesday on a charge of rape.
Between 20:00 on 03 April 2026 and 02:00 on 04 April 2026, at a residence in Dobsonville, the victim went to the premises with her aunt and a 10-year-old friend to cook, as they did not have electricity at home.
Reports indicate that the suspect later arrived at the residence allegedly intoxicated. It is further alleged that the suspect gave the victim a drink which caused her to become dizzy, after which she was allegedly taken to a vehicle parked outside the yard, where she was raped. The victim later regained consciousness in the suspect’s office, where she was found in a distressed condition by witnesses.
A medical examination was conducted and yielded positive findings consistent with injuries. Forensic evidence was collected at the scene, including the victim’s clothing recovered from a vehicle, vomit containing a red substance, as well as wine stains found on the office floor. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the premises has also been seized for further analysis.
An adult witness reportedly discovered the victim inside the office and recorded video evidence of the scene, which forms part of the investigation.
The matter is being handled with the necessary urgency, and investigations are continuing.
[UNDER INVESTIGATION] An investigation is underway regarding an incident (with video circulated on various social media platforms) whereby a SAPS Constable allegedly assaulted a member of the public. The incident is said to have occurred on 02 April 2026, at the Volksrust Police Station.
It is worth noting that in light of the serious allegation, the SAPS has instituted an internal investigation to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In addition to the internal investigation, a criminal investigation is also underway to ensure all aspects of this matter are addressed transparently.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified of the incident and it is expected that a parallel investigation will be conducted by this Directorate.

Yoh, things are really intense now there at the Madlanga Commission 💀
So on 20 November 2022, DJ Sumbody was shot and killed in a hail of bullets ⚰️
On 23 November (3 days later), Sergeant Fannie Nkosi sent Mpho Lekukela a WhatsApp message accompanied by a picture of him (Mpho Lekukela) and DJ Sumbody with a caption: “Why didn’t you call him to order?”
The question being asked now by the commission is: why did Nkosi send Mpho Lekukela such a message about a person who had just being killed in a hail of bullets? 🤷🏽♂️
Sergeant Nkosi says he does not remember, and then Commissioner Madlanga told him to his face that he is lying, and that when they return from the break, he wants a proper answer 😕
