We mourn the passing of Gen. Moses Ali and celebrate a life of remarkable service and achievement. Even at an advanced age, he earned qualifications in law and authored an authoritative book on the Nubian people. A distinguished soldier, peace builder, and long-serving, respected political leader. His legacy will endure. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

I was pleased this afternoon to join Mama Miria Obote at her home as she celebrated her 90th birthday. Among those present were Jimmy Akena, his aunt Jane Akullu Pole (aged 99), and Anita Mpambara Cox, an Ugandan-born political leader based in the United States. We thank Mama Miria for her wisdom, grace, and enduring love for the people of Uganda and our country. May God continue to bless her with many more years of good health and happiness

We are deeply saddened by the passing of John Oryema Lacambel, a distinguished journalist, patriot, and peace advocate whose voice became a beacon of hope during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency in Northern Uganda. Through his work on MEGA FM, particularly his peace broadcasts, he helped bridge the divide between those trapped in conflict and the communities awaiting their return. By conveying messages from families, traditional and religious leaders, political leaders, and the Government of Uganda, he encouraged countless abductees and combatants to return home, assuring them of security, forgiveness, and reintegration into society. His deep understanding of the conflict, extensive contacts, and commitment to peace also made a valuable contribution to the progress achieved during the Juba Peace Talks. Uganda owes a debt of gratitude to John Lacambel for his selfless service and his significant role in advancing reconciliation, ending the conflict, and restoring peace and stability in Northern Uganda. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the people of Northern Uganda. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Ambassador Matayo Kyaligonza and Family. My family and I are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of your son, Banura Kyaligonza, the District Chairman of Kikube. He was a young leader of remarkable foresight and immense potential, whose vision and energy inspired not only the youth but many Ugandans across the country. His dedication to service and his promise of greater leadership marked him as a rising national—and indeed pan-African—asset. His premature departure is a profound loss to your family and to the nation at large. Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. May the Almighty grant you strength, comfort, and peace. May his soul rest in eternal peace. MHSRIEP

On Monday this week, my wife and I visited Avocado growers/farmers in Kyenjojo district. The visit was organized by Nicholas Muhangi, a leading farmer in the district. We assured them that Government of Uganda encourages Avocado growing for both local and export markets. These farmers are already exporting some of their organic products to Europe. Hass avocado is very commercially valuable because of its rich oil content, long shelf life and strong global demand. I thank Nicholas Muhangi and his team of farmers for promoting Avocado as a commercially viable crop, which will uplift communities from poverty.

STATEMENT The U.S. Senate Foreign Affairs Committee should stop threatening anyone who questions the policy of sanctions. They should start by preaching and cleaning their own house in the USA. The worst abuse of conduct came from their own president, @realDonaldTrump, who publicly bullied Ilhan Omar, @IlhanMN, for criticizing his racist attitude toward Somalis and other minorities in the United States. Instead of threatening Uganda with sanctions day in and day out, the Senate should first reprimand its own overgrown bully. Ugandans and Americans alike must understand that Bobi Wine, @HEBobiwine, is not a messiah and should not be used as a U.S. tool to remake Uganda. He lost the elections—period. It is pure hypocrisy for a country that claims to defend democracy worldwide to allow this “Bobi Wine syndrome” to spread across Africa. The USA wants us to ignore our courts and due process, rush its favored politician into “safety,” and then issue hollow statements and threats of sanctions against a sovereign nation. For the doubting Thomases, let me remind you: we saw this same script in Tanzania, and it nearly burned the country. And we all know that U.S.-based groups have funded and equipped opposition movements across Africa—yet the Senate remains silent about this. The truth is simple: diplomats should stay out of this and go back to their offices, and allow us to lecture American bullies. Spare us your lectures. Let the USA stop harassing Africans in Uganda and elsewhere. Let the USA fix its double standards strategy that has damaged the world order. The Senate must first reprimand its own president, @realDonaldTrump—who speaks against refugees, yet is married to a refugee—before threatening Africans with sanctions. Let me also put this on notice: those who want to narrow this debate just to gain positions in government should step aside. Some of us speak boldly for all Africans on a Pan-African basis—not like quislings and turncoats who want to silence this debate. Yesterday I held a meeting with Tom Doyle, Chairman and Miriam Donohoe, Project Manager of Hope on Wheels Co. of Ireland and the leadership of Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU). The Irish team has donated 10 ambulances and aims to raise €600,000 to support palliative care in Uganda. The initiative honors the legacy of Dr. Ann Merriman who founded Hospice Africa Uganda in 1993. The ambulances will be driven from Mombasa to Kampala by a team of VIPs from Ireland to support the PCAU fundraising efforts.

I congratulate the Uganda cranes for the excellent performance in today’s AFCON match against Nigeria, even when they were a team of 10 players. The single goal scored by Rogers Mato raised the Uganda flag high and indeed made Uganda proud. Captain Denis Ogola’s performance before he sustained an injury, was outstanding. Well done Uganda Cranes! The future is bright!

At the National Peace Conference in Kampala last week, I shared that we must guard jealously the peace, security and stability our country has and continues to experience, even as we go into this election season. Peace is a fragile commodity that we must all protect and preserve. Let us all act in accordance with the law and respect one another at all times . Elections should not divide us.

Yesterday I presided over the Coalition Against Illicit Alcohol consultation meeting. We reviewed Phase 1 of the campaign, key messages and the December rollout. There is consensus: toxic illicit spirits are a major public health and economic threat. Grateful to all institutions supporting the campaign into 2026. Together we protect Ugandans.
