The whole Doctor shortage narrative is missing some vital information we should all be skeptical about.
If concern for care in the developing world were genuine why drain vital physicians from places where they are most needed. The worldwide stats do not scream desperate US shortage that only foreign trained doctors can fix. They expose a controlled domestic bottleneck instead.
US physician density sits at roughly 2.7 doctors per 1 000 people. That number lands below the OECD average and trails leaders like Greece at over 6.5 or Austria near 5.5. Yet the pipeline keeps pulling in thousands of international medical graduates every year from countries with far thinner ratios India near 0.8 Pakistan around 1.0 Philippines near 1.7 and far lower across much of sub Saharan Africa at 0.2 to 0.7.
The residency cap frozen since the 1997 Balanced Budget Act never scaled with US medical school growth or an aging population. That leaves qualified US seniors unmatched or funneled into SOAP while provisional fast track paths open in 18 plus states for experienced foreign physicians who bypass full US residency oversight.
Our politicians push this for the lobbyists and the AMA does, as well -
Hospitals and systems gain compliant lower cost labor and higher billing margins. Visa dependent staff follow protocols more readily. The rural shortage cover story persists even though most IMGs cluster in urban or suburban markets where the economics work best for the institutions.
It is not patient need driving the import volume. It is policy engineered scarcity meeting profit and control incentives.

🚨Virginia Democrats Intend to Disenfranchise the Entire State — Rep. Ben Cline on the Redistricting Power Grab:
“You’re going to elect Democrats out of Fairfax, Prince William County, who don’t know the first thing about agriculture, who don’t know the first thing about the Valley of Virginia.”
Early voting is already underway for this referendum even though it violates state law. The statute requires at least 90 days between passage and the election. Here we are at just 45 days.
The Supreme Court punted on the lawsuit instead of ruling on the clear statutory violation.
The ballot question is deliberately misleading. It asks voters whether they want to “restore fairness” to the redistricting process they themselves approved in 2020 and that the Supreme Court used to draw the maps in 2021.
Democrats supported that system then. Now they want to scrap it to wipe out rural and Republican representation.
Their plan would carve up large agricultural districts like Cline’s and attach the pieces to deep-blue Northern Virginia suburbs.
This could flip as many as five seats, silence rural voices across the state, threaten the House majority, and derail President Trump’s agenda.
Virginia has long been a purple state, the Democrats with this move intend to make it blue permanently.
This is an all-hands-on-deck moment. Get out and vote NO! 🇺🇸
