@akhivae I would suggest a regional streaming service, it’ll have stuff that’s more relevant to them and lots of it. Though I don’t know if that’s necessarily any better

I considered getting them a Netflix account, but my wife suggested they wouldn't use it. Is moderate screen time devoted to TV and movies superior to moderate screen time devoted to short videos?

My family back in the village (India) lead active, social, outdoorsy lives. Very healthy (physically and mentally). But aside from the occasional cricket match, the time they do spend on screens is devoted to short video content (Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts). Do you see it as a problem?

@webdevMason The woman op is lambasting for all to see is her husband’s sister. Even if she doesn’t agree with her parenting, super weird to go public like this? Feels like it’s more of an interpersonal issue for her that’s coming up through this

Per the internet, the two options: - She's an insufferable, controlling mother keeping her power trip going through her non-custodial time via checklists - He's a useless father who won't do any of this stuff and probably doesn't even know what his children's routines look like

this tweet is higher-context than it looks and is being misread as romeo saying “it’s bad to teach kids to restrain their impulses,” which is not the claim. romeo is an experienced meditator and his actual claim, frankly, will not make any sense to you unless you’ve had a direct experience of noticing a pattern of muscle tension in your own body that accomplishes nothing, that might even be hurting you to the point of causing chronic pain or anxiety or messing up your breathing or digestion, but is basically a physically embodied superstition from childhood, eg something along the lines of “if i maintain this specific pattern of muscle tension the adults will like me and i’ll be safe” many people will not ever have to deal with anything like this because they’re overall functional enough that whatever stuff like this they have isn’t meaningfully impacting their life, or it sloughs off spontaneously. that’s good! this tweet was for the other people
Matthew Dub@5matthewdub

i never expected to have such a literal application of romeo’s tweet

@UpTambourine @ThymeToBeBorn Ikr?? That one always gets me. Like stay off of her if you really don't want more kids?? Like they knew enough to know that pregnancies can't happen without certain activities. Like planting a garden and getting angry when seedlings start coming up.

I believe there is more understanding and compassion for women with large families than ever before in history, because old writings are full of disdain for families with poor "moral hygiene," including even husbands being enraged that wives keep getting pregnant.

@CartoonsHateHer my issue is that the twitter right wing loves talking about aesthetics and bringing beauty back etc. against the dysgenic left wing and they/them queerness. But you don’t actually see this beauty anywhere. It’s only getting tackier and uglier, couple exceptions aside

Today I wrote about the vocal groups of anti-capitalist fashion snobs on Twitter, and how they keep their politics feeling consistent by claiming it's about "taste" and not money. Link in replies.

@ThymeToBeBorn my water broke at thirty seven weeks to the day, baby was out in six hours post pitocin. I did wait almost twelve hours in between and not a lot was happening. I’m fine with doctors consulting studies because what else can be done but bodies are not consistent at all

I know they have that meta analysis that shows higher mortality past 39 weeks BUT I've picked fruit and when it's nice and ripe, just perfect, it falls right off easily. Before that you gotta twist the stems a lot, and if it's way early you need clippers.
mrs. dobbins ☕️🪶@mrsdobbins_

I saw a new provider yesterday. After saying everything looked good and fine, he said “if you make it to 39 weeks somebody can talk to you about getting scheduled for an induction or whatever.” THIRTY NINE 😆

@ThymeToBeBorn I do want to make it clear that he did this instead of resting. He was still changing most of the diapers and taking care of the baby. I was pumping like 10 times a day and preferred washing up instead of holding the baby. I was unhappy about his lack sleep

@ThymeToBeBorn when my first baby was born my husband purchased a 3-D printer about a week post birth. He purchased the parts and had to construct it himself, troubleshoot filaments etc. It took me a year to get over that but he has promised he’s going to react better emotionally this time lol

@liminal_warmth the worst I’ve felt about my cats is mostly when I’m in the middle of baby work and the cats want attention, or crying outside the door when I’m trying to put the toddler to sleep. I can’t imagine giving them up though, the frustration is only ever momentary

@neerajadeshp @dhaaruni @hwoolf17 Yeah as a former dentist and current sahm, I was strictly anti-kids ever until I met my husband. It’s a bad choice financially but I don’t think learning in any form is a loss. Also law is a famously high attrition field, so the numbers seem consistent.

I think <5% of women who go to elite schools think they want to be SAHMs. A lot more wind up becoming SAHMs because it becomes a more practical choice. If both partners are working brutal hours at elite institutions, but only one can breastfeed and has to deal with the physical exhaustion of pregnancy, a lot of couples/women do the math.

@Jamesthesnake @mattyglesias @MattZeitlin She explains that zero coercion was involved, the owner of the property sold it. There's nothing shady that went on, The cousin who owned the deed sold the home, and then they no longer owned it.

i think both the tenants advocates and the landlord lobby basically agree on the basic fact that property will not appreciate in price/appreciation won't be realized (this should be the same thing) if the owner doesn't control who lives there and on what terms
Talia Jane ❤️‍🔥@taliaotg

A few years ago, my neighbors were evicted from their multigenerational home. The cousin who owned the deed (did not live there) was coerced to sell to a developer. The tenants tried, unsuccessfully, to defend their home. It was demolished and is now empty luxury condos for sale.

@rclu If you're so brilliant and accomplished, why couldn't you get a tenure-track professorship anywhere? I might have began my career as a humble documentary filmmaker, but I've learned enough to understand that this is what academic failure looks like:

"Ive always struggled with (whatever)" No they havent, theyre just lazy and dont make it a habit to remember to do things as they need getting done. Contrary to popular belief, the "struggle" is in fact, not real. Its just laziness with a side of cope. I say this as someone who was probably a worse offender than the wife in this situation. Its just inconsideration at its core. The person doesnt care enough about the tidiness of the living space they share. Husband is in the right on this.

This post is an excellent litmus test for understanding of just war theory. Despite the fact that I can see how effective this would be, I must oppose it because the damage it would do to my enemy (who bashes in my mailbox) would far outweigh the good of saving my mailbox. Its disproportionality is opposed by our duty in charity (and even justice) to watch out even for the good of our enemies. (Yes, by the way, I have had my mailbox bashed in by random vandals.)
