I left Google DeepMind, moved from SF to NYC, all within 2 weeks to join @quadrillion_ai — to build the future of automated research intelligence with the highest slope founder and most talent dense team. I grew up in Silicon Valley — the old Facebook office was my second home. I’d hang out there after school, drawing with my crayons while looking around at the sea of computers with lines of code. Since a young age, I felt empowered to have an array of interests beyond tech: piano, ballet, figure skating, art. The valley embraced diversity of thought, and that’s what inspired me to stay for Stanford and my career thus far. But today, SF is one big hive-mind. So, I moved to NYC, away from family and friends to build a company that doesn’t need to rely on a bubble to survive. I’m meeting customers day after day in all kinds of verticals, connecting with them in different ways and seeing our product bring real value. Here, I’m able to live in diversity of thought. I’m excited to build the future of research in the city of opportunity. Let’s chat if this excites you.

Today is my last day at OpenAI. I had the privilege of working with the best researchers in the world across pretraining and RL. I’m most grateful for the mentorship of @polynoamial and @ClemensWinter, who inspired me to pursue ambitious ideas. We’ve trained incredible models over the past few years. In just 4 years, we went from GPT-3 scoring 35% on grade school math to an IMO gold medal result. I’m excited to see how the team will continue to push the frontier beyond my wildest imagination. As for what’s next, I’m excited to share more soon.

14 dinners got me everything I ever wanted in this world. This is a love letter to everyone who came to a Family Meal in the last 12 months. You took a chance on someone who wasn’t the traditional fit for this community, walked into dinners blind (a hidden guest list and no guarantee of what you’d get out of it) and gave me the one thing in this world you can’t buy back: your time. Growing up I was drawn to lot of startup movies/shows (The Social Network, Silicon Valley) and all I ever wanted as someone 10,000 miles away from where all of that was happening, was to be in it. In the restaurant industry, family meal is a moment when bartenders, servers, cooks, dishwashers eat together and get to know each other outside of service. Too often as founders, researchers, investors, engineers, you’re expected to always have the right answers, be “impressive” and in a constant state of being “on.” In a world where everything is so transactional, Family Meal was created to take you off your proverbial line and give everyone a break from the performance. For 14 dinners I’ve kept Family Meals sponsor-free to keep the intention behind it all pure. I didn’t want homework from anyone to deliver insights, founders, or potential recruits on a platter. In our world, money is a commodity and protecting what makes these dinners feel genuine is a price I’d happily pay. I think it has served us well. And through this experiment I’ve found some of the most non-transactional, inspiring, and quietly brilliant people that put me in awe everyday. 14 dinners got me everything I ever wanted in this world, and it has been a great pleasure being your host. I am feeling incredibly grateful🙏 as I share two big milestones. At @CarnegieMellon, I've been exploring robotics, AI, and human communication. This journey challenged me to grow, reminded me there is always more to learn, and brought amazing people into my life. A few weeks ago, I defended my PhD thesis. 🎓 This wouldn’t have been possible without my advisor, @ybisk, who believed in me even when I didn’t. I’m also thankful to my committee for their research vision and guidance. To my friends, and family - for celebrating my small wins and for lifting me up through the challenges. Now, as one chapter closes, another begins! I am beyond excited to join @OpenAI to continue building AI systems that better understand and work with people. Looking forward to staying curious, collaborating, and creating impact in what comes next.🚀
