@tomhollwho Tbh it could’ve been the studio trying to avoid a PR shitshow. There’s so much drama around Sydney & Sam, the material, and the fandom is extremely volatile so there’s just a lot of ways it could’ve gotten out of hand/ off topic. And at then of the day, the show doesn’t need it.

zendaya+law have def popularized method dressing in the mainstream & i agree they tend to be better at it than most but his tendency to imply ownership over it doesn't sit well w me when there were several examples in the 2000s-10s that set the stage for what he and z did later

Sometimes it really comes down to “the vibe,” and the main vibe in Babylon is awful or awfully stressed out people yelling at each other while doing morally questionable things. Non-stop. With a loud musical track constantly there. I liked the movie a lot but it’s no surprise that it didn’t click with average moviegoers.

In my opinion, David Yates did a spectacular job with the last four Harry Potter films. He may not be the best director in the series, but for what he was given, he handled the darker tone, the scale, and the emotional weight of the story really well.
Sure, the franchise started to feel like it ran out of steam once he stayed on with the Fantastic Beasts movies for far too long, but I don’t think he deserves all the hate he gets just for not being the strongest voice in the franchise. A lot of the issues with those films come down to the scripts, largely written by Rowling rather than Yates’ direction, which was solid enough for what the material allowed.
