@roikfbuwgc254 We do this in Britain too! On November the 5th it’s a big celebration to celebrate the death of ‘Guy Fawkes’, a man that wanted to blow up Parliament. Fireworks and bonfires sometimes with a Guy Fawkes effigy on top

アメリカは本当に面白い! 週末に集まって焚き木をするという遊びがあるらしい キャンプではなくて庭先で焚き木をする みんなで木を燃やす文化面白すぎる
Blaine Bishop@TheBlaineBishop

@roikfbuwgc254 Yes! 😃 It’s very common for friends to get together on the weekend to sit around a fire and talk about memories and hopes. You might even have s’mores or drinks and play a game called “cornhole” or “bags” where you throw bags onto a wooden board with a hole in it for points.

After a significant amount of time, chipping away on and off, I have finally completed what I'm sure is the first ever "Lyrical Walkthrough" for what I'm sure is one of the best games ever... Cave Story. Enjoy... youtube.com/playlist?list=…

I appreciate this help, but put yourself in my shoes, having used RSS with my podcast 20 years ago in 2006, and now people assume I won't know what it is, they don't know I was a NEW MASTER OF FLASH or ANY of it. Can a person be lost media?
Polyducks@Polyducks

@DaftLimmy Bear blog is a good small scale blog, but there are loads of ways to make a blog for your site, even just a .txt can work. Remember to use RSS, it's a protocol where people can get notifications on your updates. I wrote an intro to RSS here: polyducks.co.uk/pages/what-is-…

@CryptoCraeg @bryan_johnson 5g of mushrooms, which translates to they think roughly 25-30mg of psilocybin. which, when put into orange juice, will start metabolising into psilocin (the actual active ingredient)

UPDATE 1: It’s around 1 hour since he took his 5g dose of magic mushrooms. Some of his observations so far: + loves the drums music he’s listening to. Apparently he started learning this style of drums years ago? + described the dose as “calm and pleasant”. He’s having a REALLY lovely time. + sense of time is definitely warped. He thinks more time has passed than it has. thinks he has peaked + he felt a strong desire to look after the people in the room… checking if we’re ok. He asked me if I had eaten. We told him that we’re all good and that he can focus on himself and the experience + visual hallucinations are happening - my face and the trees “are alive” and moving As I am typing this he started giggling. He’s having a fantastic time.

Data centers in orbit? Of course that’s your contention. Of course it is. You just finished watching a Scott Manley video on radiative heat transfer and now you think you’re gonna disrupt AWS with a few solar panels and a rideshare slot. You’re gonna believe that right up until next month when you crack open DeWitt and Incropera and start throwing around σT⁴ like you just invented radiation physics, quoting emissivity tables for polished aluminum like they’re forbidden knowledge. Then you’ll finally open SMAD and realize your radiator isn’t some static plate glowing into the void. It’s a dynamic structure with a wicked case of thermal flutter reminiscent of Hubble’s arrays. You’ll be quoting beta angles and Earth albedo coefficients and wondering why your deployable array grenaded in vibe when the first bending mode clocked in at 38 Hz instead of the 50 Hz you promised in CDR. After that you’ll get real ambitious, quoting Johnson and Fabisinski on inflatable polyimide PV structures, pretending you actually understand what happens when your 25-micron Kapton sail is tensioned off a Toray T1100G Cycom 5250-4 boom that has been sun-baked at 120 °C for six months in LEO. You’ll cite “areal density optimization” like gospel while your resin creeps, your modulus drops, and your perfectly flat film turns into a potato chip. "Well, as a matter of fact, I won’t, because launch costs are about to fall another order of magnitude once Starship hits cadence. The cost per kilo will—" Drop by tenfold and the economics flip. Yeah, I’ve heard that one. The Wired 2012 quote, “You wouldn’t build a Boeing 747 and throw it away after one flight.” I remember. I even asked him about that over lunch once, whether the market was actually elastic enough to handle the supply increase from reusability. Turns out it wasn’t. Non-Starlink launch mass in the United States grew at 13.7 percent CAGR from 2015 to 2023. Payload demand didn’t scale with flight cadence, so prices didn’t collapse, margins just swelled. That’s why they had to invent Starlink. When the market can’t absorb your rockets, you start building your own payloads. Is that your thing? You read some Marc Andreessen “American Dynamism” manifesto and suddenly start ignoring the engineering realities? You start throwing around a few buzzwords to impress the Twitter anons and earn some street cred for having a contrarian opinion? One, don’t do that. Two, you dropped a 500-thousand-dollar seed check on a concept that could have been debunked by a dollar-fifty worth of tokens from Grok. "Well, at least I’m a capital allocator. We’ll be skiing in Hokkaido while you’re doing bolt preload calculations for some bridge somewhere." Yeah, maybe. But at least I won’t be unoriginal or anonymous. I’m out here asking why the hell we’d melt the brains of a thousand aerospace engineers just to save four cents per kilowatt-hour on solar electricity. First principles isn’t about getting nerd-sniped by a shiny-object problem. It’s about asking whether we should be solving that problem at all. But hey, if you’ve got an issue with that, we can always take it up with E.

This is the reality check we need more often. 👏 @byteboro Web3 isn’t a “cloud” yet, and that’s okay. It’s the assembly of decentralized components that, together, can give people control back over data, identity, and value. Step by step. Vision with engineering. ⚙️
byte@byteboro

lots of people today saying ah yeah web2 cloud sucks use web3 cloud. ok fine. but let's be honest, there is currently no web3 "cloud" in the sense there is a web2 cloud. why? to put it simply, blockchain storage is expensive and onchain runtimes work differently than "normal" programming for the most part ipfs is a good-ish solution to storage, along with other currently-in-development storage solutions, but it's not perfect - it's not nearly as fast as a database and relies on a small handful of gateways or private companies running pinning services. is there a compute/full-cloud-suite-like solution? yes, but it's still at least a year+ down the road - however, the important thing to note that i want to bring up here is that blockchains aren't everything. blockchains are good at some things, and bad at others. the whole concept behind "web3" is that web3 is a new internet, which is composed of a bunch of technologies which empower the user - p2p protocols, cryptography/encryption (privacy and verifiability), blockchain (ledger), distributed storage, onion routing, and a lot of other things which can be combined to create a truly sovereign, private web where your data and your money and your digital life is YOURS. JAM does a lot for this and enables all of the building blocks we need for such a truly web2-like cloud suite, but we need services to be developed on top as well - web3 can look like web2 to developers, and that's important. meet the users and devs where they are, at least for now. JAM is a hybrid system of which only one part is a blockchain think beyond the ledger and take back the whole fucking internet for the people, not just money
