The UK’s Foreign Office has closed a unit that tracked potential breaches of international law by Israel in Gaza. The International Humanitarian Law Cell was closed due to budget cuts, according to reports in the Guardian. Al Jazeera’s Mohammad Saleh reports from London.

🚨Tel Aviv is currently witnessing large-scale demonstrations against Netanyahu’s government.

We just got attacked by a settler at @Issaamro's house in Hebron, West Bank

We spoke to reporter Zaynab Faraj, who survived a triple-tap attack that killed her colleague, Amal Khalil. She described how an Israeli strike first hit a car ahead of them, killing two civilians, before a second strike targeted their own vehicle, severely injuring Amal. Ms Faraj said she helped her into an empty house, where they lay wounded and terrified, waiting for help. A third Israeli strike then hit the building where they were hiding, collapsing it on top of them. “Amal was gone,” Ms Faraj said. “And I was left alone.” Throughout the ordeal, the journalists made repeated calls for help. But Israel prevented the Lebanese Army and the Lebanese Red Cross from reaching them, informed sources told us.

Israel does not target journalists. On April 22, Hezbollah terrorists violated the ceasefire in Lebanon and endangered IDF soldiers. After countless warnings including in this specific area Hezbollah operated, the IDF acted to neutralize an imminent threat posed to IDF soldiers. The IDF is reviewing reports that journalist Amal Khalil, who was present alongside the terrorists during their operation, was hurt in the strike. Israel targets terrorists and regrets any harm caused to those not involved in terrorist activity.
