As far as I can recall the Christian judicial assize service has always been held at St. George’s Cathedral. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to move to another cathedral, such as Pastor Mambu’s Faith Healing Cathedral. Perhaps, the prayers of the righteous may avail so much for the judiciary. Reports have revealed that a certain Sierra Leone Ambassador has been linked to 380 Kilogram of contraband and thousands of dollars found in a utility vehicle belonging to the Sierra Leone Embassy. When a little boy, My father, the late teacher Ben Kaifala of Pendembu used to play a lot of Lord Laro’s “Foreign Presss” and a line from that classic music stood out for me and fascinated me seriously: “YOU KNOW OUR SCHOLARS HAVE SAT AND PASSED EVERY TEST BUT THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT THAT IN THE FOREIGN PRESS. . .” It hit me hard as a child. I wanted to put it to a test! I am happy to announce that I represented Sierra Leone at the highest level, competed with the World’s elite brains and conquered like the true descendant of Kai Londo! As I prepare for my graduation from Harvard University on Thursday, May 23rd 2024 with my transcript containing mostly EXCELLENT GRADES which Harvard calls “H” for “HONOR” - which in our universities would be multiple “A” grades from no less a school than Harvard Law School with some from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, I have been reflecting on what inspired me to embark on the journey to become DANGEROUSLY EDUCATED with such level of DISTINCTION. The very few low grades I got is “P” otherwise known as “High Pass” or “B” to us. There is no “LP” or “Low Pass” - for “C” or “F” for “Fail”. I checked the raw score for some of the courses and I got as high as 95%. It’s thrilling! Being a top performer in every class was easier when I was younger and would take top positions with a lot less effort. But this one was a lot different - I was now approaching 40 with a lot of responsibilities and distractions including my role as Anti-Corruption Commissioner of Sierra Leone, family and everything that “growing up” brings. Yet I conquered similarly LIKE THE GOOD OLD DAYS at the Sierra Leone Grammar School or Fourah Bay College or the Sierra Leone Law School or the other universities in the West that I had sojourned in the past, in search of knowledge and excellence. This part snapshot of my transcript should be seen by my children when they grow up. But today I want every YOUNG PERSON in Sierra Leone to see it and believe that IT CAN BE DONE! I have never played with academics; and like a fierce competitive instinct, I push my own boundaries every time to test how far I can go. It’s the trick! Go for gold young ones; go!
