Do you know why your housing is so expensive? In America, we let neighbors have a say in what can be built. Since NIMBY homeowners hate new building, they vote to suffocate supply, so you pay THOUSANDS more Why should neighbors be able to tell you what to do with your housing?

@anon_opin Nope, car travel should be limited for leisure vs single occupant commuting. We need connected network of protected/separated bike lanes and rapid prioritized public transit for everyday commuting/school, errands and fun too!

Everyone's quality of life would be improved if car travel was limited to commuting and essential travel.

There are 20 houses on my block in Mar Vista. The neighborhood was developed in 1947. Of those 20 houses, 8 have NEVER been sold. Since 1947! Handed down from generation to generation. Those 8 houses currently have an average taxable value of $172k. So they each pay ~$2k per year in property tax. If Prop 13 didn't exist... and homes were re-assessed every few years like ~everywhere else in the country... those 8 houses... on this one block... combined... would pay an additional ~$184k per year in property tax. That could pay for an additional teacher at the local school. Or our own police officer, just for this block! So it's tough to read about the fallout from LA's $1B budget shortfall. “We’re not looking at dozens or even hundreds of layoffs, but thousands.” It's a real 'this one simple trick' situation.

@BayWestInvest My mom lives in Mar Vista in a very financially limited way. I understand the reasons you want change, but how do you explain to her she should pay as much as her neighbors that have paid $2,500,000 for a stucco box so they can be near her?

33 speed cameras go will be activated tomorrow in San Francisco at these locations. Fines range from $50-$500. SF will become the first city in California to implement them. Oakland and San Jose will also add them. @KTVU Live at 10 pm with the story

Hi Betty, We'll be out west in July - possibility of seeing the Mets & Giants while in Stockton. To be certain I understand, in SF driving 30mph carries a fine, but I’m still ok to poop on the streets? Just want to be sure. It’s about time a city council got their priorities straight! :-)

HOW MODERN SOCIETY THINKS OF PILOTS. They need to be high-IQ professionals, able to think quickly and calmly, always putting safety over convenience. No crash is acceptable. MOTORISTS. Any 16-year-old hothead can drive. Accidents happen.

@lymanstoneky I will take stupid opinions for a 1000 alex. Because gas taxes are supposed to pay for roads, and city/state taxes are supposed to pay for fire and police protection. Property tax is another grab at more money state government wastes

because a 90 year old lady is going to have firefighters come when she crashes her car and going to have police keep criminals away from her house and going to have her kids visit her on roads paved by taxpayers old people are quite governmentally expensive actually!
