Feature flags are great for frontend, usually bad for backend. Only use them when it’s safe to enable/disable them at any time without changing how state is persisted.

I gave WIRED the exclusive on our hands launch, and they wrote a really weird article about how we are sexualizing robotics… wired.com/story/the-1x-n… I felt pretty betrayed because that’s not what they told me they were writing about not is that what I’ve ever been about… actually I stand for quite the opposite… But I’ve come to find a lot of dishonesty and malice in the journalism community so I wasn’t surprised. This is what I sent the author… I’m only sharing this because I hope it encourages journalists to resist the click bait trap and tell truly awesome stories because I for one don’t believe journalism is dead— I think it’s just starting and just needs to evolve past the weird corner of the internet where data driven optimization turns everything into smooth brained shocking brain rot bullshit. The technological revolution we are going through should inspire a journalism renaissance. Not let it fall into further decay. There is so much brilliance at play in the world and the stories should be told! My note: “[author name redacted], it was nice talking to you, but I wanted to let you know that I didn’t enjoy your article at all. UUIDs (especially time-ordered ones like UUIDv7 or ULID) generally scale better in distributed systems. Needs no central ID coordination, easy sharding across regions, and global uniqueness. Autoincrement creates hotspots and pain with multi-master or data merging. Main trade-off is storage/index size with random UUIDs, but modern DBs and UUIDv7 handle that well.

when it was Carroll's turn to sign the Declaration of Independence, he rose, went to John Hancock's desk where the document rested, signed his name "Charles Carroll" and returned to his seat. At this point another member of the Continental Congress, who was prejudiced against Carroll because of his Catholicism, commented that Carroll risked nothing in signing the document, as there must be many men named Charles Carroll in the colonies, and so the King would be unlikely to order Carroll's arrest without clear proof that he was the same Charles Carroll who had signed the Declaration.
Carroll immediately returned to Hancock's desk, seized the pen again, and added "of Carrollton" to his name.

Somewhat surprised to learn the that neither San Francisco, nor the Bay Area has a publicly accessible, Olympic-sized (50m) pool.
