This morning, I was honoured to preside as chief guest at the 2025 International Rural Women's Day commemoration. I celebrated the extraordinary resilience and leadership of rural women, whose efforts are fundamental to our communities. I reiterated that achieving fairness and equality in land governance is a shared national responsibility. I reaffirmed the government's commitment through concrete actions. This includes foundational efforts like the Kilimanjaro Initiative and our current work under the Kenya Women Land Rights Agenda, where we are developing actionable plans to secure women's land rights. However, significant obstacles remain. I challenged all stakeholders to confront deep-seated cultural norms, like male-only inheritance and the weak enforcement of existing laws. These systemic barriers continue to inhibit the progress of rural women across Kenya. Overcoming these hurdles requires a concerted strategy. By strengthening advocacy, sharing experiences, and enhancing collaboration, we can dismantle these barriers. Empowering women is the key to unlocking Kenya's full potential for sustainable development and prosperity. The @NLC_Kenya is a steadfast partner in this journey.
