Shark Tank is dead. no one has 2 hours to watch a fake, cinematic, scripted drama. we just fixed that. introducing... Everyone assumes an AI school means more screen time.
Wilderland in Utah uses AI to shrink academics to a few hours.
Students spend the afternoons outside.
Hikes, long recesses, building things.
Less screen time. Because of AI.

My uncle told me to buy 3 things:
1) Nvidia stock in 2011 @ ~$10/ share
2) Bitcoin in 2012

More than half of teachers say their students are using EdTech for 3+ hours a day. I spend too much time with people at the cutting edge, so I'm baffled. Are the mainstream EdTech products just really bad?

I see a LOT of debate about the Alpha Schools decision to put kids on devices two hours a day. Yet very little debate about the decision of most US schools to run with more than 2 hrs as the norm. From a 2021 EdWeek survey:

A few weeks ago we packed 15 families - 29 parents & their collective 37 kids - into a giant 18-bedroom house in Tahoe, and hosted a super fun "un-conference" style retreat/gathering. very casual... social thing. run with/for friends. But thanks to an epic support crew of nannies and @Alphaschool guides, all were able to participate- most facilitate a session of some kind.. some personal, some professional, some family subjects, e.g - "building a company with your spouse" ft @clairevo & @elawless, @hsambhi & @rosie_chopra + others - @jessegenet on running her homeschool + household with local AI agents (including live appearances from the kids) -@mbateman and @nateliason on "how to start a school" - @adamgries on longevity & AI, how to live forever - @Gena_I_Gorlin on the psychology of ambition - plus "building connection" for busy married couples. - - @immad's philosophical takes on "what is money" - and raising kids to have positive relationships with it. - - @ketau on “when agents spend more than humans” / future biz models + ad supported AI - @ellenvoramd and @vimalspot on "Modern Spirituality" - building spiritual families, deep dive from Ellen on "the Anatomy of Anxiety" - also - @TomHacohen on Privacy, security, AI & and the internet; @Alicebentinck on how to spot talent, @petergyang on building distribution; life on the road and cultural immersion with @rieglobe, @abatalion & others. This was round two — first was back in 2023. Probably not going to wait three years to do it again. Maybe east coast later this year? 👀

@sathaxe @spicykitten415 Thats fine if you have a disagreement on policy! What's at issue here is that a ballot measure was spiked before it could be even heard in committee - which has never happened before. This is about good governance and having discourse in the public view, not behind closed doors.

Unfortunately, Mayor Lurie is trying to block even a single vote to even occur on the Affordable Groceries Act ballot measure.
This is an extreme break of protocol. And just bad governance. Ballot measures have historically always been allowed at least a floor vote at the Board of Supervisors. But yesterday Budget Chair Chan unscheduled the hearing to vote on the ballot measure, apparently under the direction of Mayor Lurie. And after lobbying from corporations like Amazon.
Even if you disagree with the policy, this type of backroom deals is what Mayor Lurie and I both campaigned against. Ballot measures should be allowed an up/down vote. To deny debate, is against the principles of democracy.
On Tuesday July 14, I will be introducing a motion asking Board President Mandelman to invoke Rule 3.38 to call a committee of whole, and allow the actual democratic process to continue.
