@JasH757 @Pongtris @ZeldaCycle Yeah, but I was more referring to the point about direct sequels. That's why I also didn't bring up Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, though Hourglass is a pretty direct follow-up to WW.

It’s amazing how Zelda fans woke up one day and decided that the Wild games were reboots, and now a good chunk of the community accepts it as fact. Crazy stuff. Only in the Zelda community.

@ActualAero I'm not a big soulslike fan, but yhe early parts of the story were a hook that got me to stick with it long enough to get used to the combat and enjoy it. I love Lily to bits, and honestly some of the NPCs are the most interesting characters, especially Enya and Kaya.

Finished Stellar Blade. Dumping my thoughts here for the 10 people who care Stellar Blade is a good game. Not mid, trash, gooner-bait or whatever else I was told before playing it and it wasn’t some legendary life-changing masterpiece for me either but just a solid game and I’m fine with that 📷 VISUALS: Right away from starting this game the visuals were something that captured my attention immediately. While not a specially unique art style that’s never been done before, this game just looked incredible. The cutscenes all had really great action, the visual effects were splendid and everything just looked beautiful on my OLED TV. The HDR in this game was really good too as I thought the spectral highlights from flames and particles alongside deep blacks were amazing. The game itself was just using very high quality assets and I didn’t really run into any odd or low-quality textures that felt out of place from a PS5 game. The character models and designs for all the characters are also gorgeous and full of detail. I really loved them all 🎮 GAMEPLAY: Ironically while gameplay was one of the things I was the most worried about before playing, it ended up coming out as a highlight of this game for me. For context, I’ve never played a Souls-like game before and I don’t play many hack & slash style action games either. This game had caught my attention from back when the PS5 was still being revealed but after hearing people comparing it to Souls-like games and saying how the combat relies a lot on parrying I was worried if I’d even be able to beat this game. The only reason I got it is cause I knew there was an easy mode so worst case scenario if it’s just unbeatable for me I can at least put it on that and see the game through. Fortunately though I was able to beat the game on normal difficulty. It might not be a crazy achievement to most people but I’m pretty happy I was able to do it for someone who’s never played this style of game. It definitely wasn’t easy for me though. The start of the game was probably the most difficult as you have limited healing, abilities and stats so basically everything would just 2 shot me but as I started unlocking more skills and abilities and having access to better gear I found myself liking the gameplay more bit by bit. There were some fights that I struggled and had to redo a lot but it didn’t feel so frustratingly unbeatable that I was actually upset. It’s funny, the fight with Raven was one I struggled with a lot and now it’s probably my favorite boss in the game. It did feel daunting at first looking at all the skills, abilities, parries and everything but as I played more and more I did start to see myself enjoying it and I do think the combat is one of the most appealing factors of this game 🎵 AUDIO & SOUNDTRACK: I was not expecting this game to have as good of a soundtrack as it did but it was also one of the aspects I really loved about this game. The environment themes were all atmospheric and pleasant to listen to and boss themes were epic and felt exhilarating. Just the sound design in the general with this game was very well done. Even the gameplay audio of the clanks when landing a parry or the ‘bling-bling-bling’ slot machine sound effect from collecting a bunch of rewards after defeating enemies felt really satisfying 📚 STORY & CHARACTERS: While the visuals, gameplay and music were all aspects I enjoyed with this game, the weakest aspect for me would have to be the story and characters. Story is one of the more important parts of a game for me but after getting about halfway into this game without still being fully hooked or having interest for anything is really when I came to terms with the idea that the plot isn’t going to be something for me personally with this game. That’s not to say that it’s nonexistent but what was there was pretty barebones for me and not something I actively wanted to engage with. There is a lot of lore in this game that can be discovered from the messages on corpses and other literature found throughout the game but it was also not enough to make me want to keep finding as many as I could. Coming from the last game I played with Expedition 33, I was always interested when discovering and reading the journals from the past expeditions as I was playing it but I didn’t have that sensation with this game unfortunately. What’s funny is I’ve heard however, that the other games this studio Shift Up works on like Nikke have really compelling characters, plot and story. So after seeing the director of Stellar Blade also acknowledge that the story and characters of this game wasn’t one of its high points I have some faith that they will see that people were let down with this aspect and hopefully try to have it improved in the sequel ✨ GRIPES + SEQUEL HOPES: A Stellar Blade sequel already in development currently does make me excited now as by having the developers really see what people enjoyed and wished was done better they can take the feedback to improve the next game and make it an even better experience. Some of my thoughts I’d like to add for that are I wish this game had a mini-map. I don’t know if that’s a thing in Souls-like games or something where you’re not supposed to know where to go but I always like exploring all the areas I can and I think having a mini map would really help with that. The game already did have a map but you had to constantly keep swiping up on the PS5 controller to open it and see where to go next which I didn’t really find that intuitive. The level design is also something I hope can be improved in the next game too. While I get the game taking place in a post-apocalyptic setting doesn’t allow for a ton that they can do, a lot of the areas in the game did feel kinda samey with the gloomy, dark settings and sometimes even camps and other important parts of the areas just blended in with each other and were hard to make out so I hope they can improve on that for the sequel also. Different weapons is also something I’d love to see too. Playing as Eve was great but she really just kept her sword from the beginning of the game all the way to the end with just getting attack power upgrades from the weapon cores. I think it would’ve been really cool if instead of just her sword you could also find spears, a heavy sword, dual blades, or just other weapons that you could try out to change up your play style throughout the game. And going off of that, while I love Eve I also think having other characters to play as would be amazing too. I’d love to play as Raven or Lily’s mech or something and I hope if the next game has returning characters or a new cast of them that there is more than one character playable. Now BY FAR my least favorite part about this game was finding out that with the multiple endings you can’t view the alternate one without completing the game all over again. All the games I've played before with multiple endings such as Nier Automata and Expedition 33 let me simply reload my save to the finale and choose the other option but with this game I was locked into whichever choice I picked and I would need to New Game+ the entire game again and pick the other option to see the alternate ending. I didn’t have the time for that so I had to look up the other ending cutscenes online which is never something I like to do. So I’m begging…if the sequel is also going to do multiple endings, please just let us be able to view them all in one play through 😭 Overall Stellar Blade was a solid experience that I came out of. Being worried about its Souls-like gameplay and combat I was able to overcome its challenges and not feel frustrated. The entire experience was a visual treat to the eyes with high quality environments, cutscenes and gorgeous characters coupled with a very good soundtrack. The narrative while underwhelming and unable to grab me is still outshined by the other elements of this game and I think for anyone who doesn’t have story as their absolute most important aspect of a game and is looking for a decently challenging, not too long action-filled experience can get a pretty good time with this game. I got it on sale on Black Friday at a discounted price and definitely feel like I got my money’s worth for that. For me it’s a 7.5/10. Thanks to anyone who cared enough to read this far :)

@xRay_Reaper @ZeDoctorBlur Look, I enjoyed Remake and Rebirth fine enough, but the community around those games is so toxic. Have a positive opinion about Tifa or Aerith or both like I do? Hardcore shippers will attack you for thinking one or the other isn't a bad character. I refuse to be part of that.

@ZeDoctorBlur I personally see this with the FF7R Community. Its crazy for me to say that these games are in any way better than the OG. OG itself has a few problems I see. But these people see the Remakes as some miracle.

How come the Final Fantasy 8 Fans are able to acknowledge the issues FF8 got and still enjoy the game, despite it getting shit thrown at but literally none of the other Final Fantasy Fanbases are?🤣

@ZeDoctorBlur Well, for starters FF9 is perfect, so there's that 😏 But seriously, between the junction system being unique and fun, Triple Triad, some of the best summon sequences, and half the cast being good characters, VIII is enjoyable to play, if sometimes flawed in its story.

@ZeldaCycle Despite there being an official "timeline" that connects all the games, I've always taken them to largely be independent of one another. They are tangentially related to one another at most, aside from games that are directly connected (OOT/MM, BOTW/TOTK, Z1/Z2, Oracles).

@Grummz In a word? Trend-chasing. Once people decided turn-based wasn't cool anymore, they abandoned their roots and made FFXIII. Almost everything they've developed or published since then has either been chasing trends, fixing what isn't broken, or both and sometimes rushed out.

@elliedagoat74 Heavily ambitious games, especially for the GB, and while they're somewhat flawed and didn't age well, what they did set up, they did a very good job of. We owe a lot to these games, and Blastoise will always be my boi. TL;DR I feel a fondness for them but I recognize the issues.

Thanks to FF7, Square went on an insane run with the games they brought to the table (and The Bouncer exists). I tend to refer to it as the "Square Renaissance." (honestly don't know if someone else calls it that or I made it up). Even look at some of the non-FF games they made.

@amagicmantv Holy soul read. Yeah. You absolutely nailed it. I didn't get Silver because Lugia looked majestic and Pokémon 2000 left an impression on me. It was...whatever the hell you just said. This post feels like inaccurate horoscopes and also doesn't account for multiple games.

Pokémon Gold, Silver, or Crystal? The version you grew up with probably rewired your personality a little. Every kid thought they picked their Pokémon game because of the legendary on the cover. That’s a lie. You picked the game that matched the kind of person you either already were — or were about to become. The Game Boy Color era wasn’t just three versions of the same game. Gold, Silver, and Crystal each had a completely different vibe. Different energy. Different emotional temperature. And if you were a kid when these came out, there’s a decent chance the version you obsessed over shaped your brain more than anyone wants to admit. Here’s the breakdown: GOLD VERSION KIDS Gold players were optimistic chaos agents. Not reckless. Not loud. Just… relentlessly forward-moving with main character energy. These were the kids who picked the yellow Game Boy Color because it “felt like sunshine.” The kids who stayed up past bedtime because the day version of the radio was playing and they refused to miss it. If Silver players wanted depth, Gold players wanted journey. Choosing Ho-Oh over Lugia said something psychologically important: you believed in legends, miracles, and dramatic comebacks. Gold was all warmth and momentum. The soundtrack felt hopeful. The day cycle made everything feel alive and full of possibility. More adventure. More routes. More “let’s see what’s over that hill.” Because Gold emphasized bright days, the Burned Tower, the legendary rainbow bird, and that triumphant feeling of climbing the mountain, it trained kids to associate persistence with destiny. You didn’t overthink type matchups. You believed your starter could solo the Elite Four if you just believed hard enough. A shocking number of Gold kids became adults who still romanticize the underdog story and think “it’ll work out” is a valid strategy. And somehow, half the time, it does. SILVER VERSION KIDS Lugia represented mystery. Power beneath the surface. Quiet intensity. Silver players didn’t want flash — they wanted presence. Their teams had personality. They actually cared about the story in the Ruins of Alph. They grinded for that one shiny even if it took forever. A Gold player would charge forward with pure vibes and friendship. A Silver player would set up Whirlpool, dive into the depths, and hit you with a calculated Psychic while the night theme played. The weirdest part is that Silver kids often developed a brooding, introspective side way earlier than everyone else. Probably because half the game involved dark caves, the deep ocean, and that haunting night soundtrack that made kids feel strangely melancholic at age 9. The Silver experience had this cool, distant feeling that accidentally created little philosophers. If Gold players became hopeful protagonists, Silver players became the quiet ones who see the hidden layers. CRYSTAL VERSION KIDS Suicune being the mascot says everything. Gold and Silver were emotional contrasts: sun vs moon, hope vs mystery, surface vs depth. Crystal players looked at both and said: “Yeah but what if I got the upgraded experience with a shiny legendary?” That’s main character behavior. Crystal kids also developed dangerously high standards because Crystal objectively was the polished version. They experienced the satisfaction of waiting for the definitive edition instead of settling. That rewired their expectations forever. Now they can’t start a new game without looking up the optimal starter and full playthrough order first. The new features — especially the gender choice and the improved Battle Tower — created a generation obsessed with personalization and excellence. Crystal players learned that beating the game wasn’t enough. You had to explore every corner, catch ‘em all, and make your version yours. These are the same people today customizing everything from their phone layout to their coffee order with terrifying precision.
