@KDbyProxy @AnnaBower It's like 1984. "The weaponization of government is necessary to stop the earlier weaponization of government we kept talking about - which was a made-up thing in order to justify the true weaponization of government we are now doing." 😵‍💫

@ToadstoolC @pager55372 @LarrySabato Ah yes, Detroit 2020...where a riled-up a mob was banging on the windows so they had to be covered up (which led to more dumb social media rumors). Meanwhile, inside, there were the right number of Republican observers...and no conspiracy, no destroying of ballots.

@RKiss83889 @BraddrofliT If it doesn’t matter where he finished in his class why does he lie about it? It obviously matters a great deal to Trump to appear smarter or a better student than he actually was. 😁

@BraddrofliT Trump is a billionaire, won 3 elections, beat 17 seasoned politicians, including Clinton, Bush, Rand Paul and many others. Took the House, Senate, Supreme Court and you want to say he isn't smart. You would have to be pretty dumb to think otherwise.

One thing I've noticed doing college instruction in era when AI has become so good that it breaks the concept of most take-home assignments is that in-class paper testing has suddenly become much more important, and this in turn makes the *printers* much more important than they were during peak digital/COVID/Zoom era, or even than during the early 2010s. But despite this new dynamic, the printer room is still getting a crappy shoestring budget premised on conditions which no longer exist. The bureaucracy still instinctively thinks of "printers" as cobwebby old technology which is, surely, in the process of being sunsetted and doesn't deserve to have frequent maintenance and dedicated staff. The bureaucracy is not digesting the fact that the printers are so important now, that it might as well be 1995 again. Plenty of money for vague "AI readiness" is sloshing about (new vice deanlet positions! conferences!! committees!!!), but not getting spent on tangeable things like this.

@SpencrGreenberg Upper right was clearly real to me...it's got that not-everything-perfectly-shaped quality. The other ones I was less sure about, but also the style of plate and arrangement in the upper left appears too modern. Generally, you can tell it's AI when things seem too perfect.

After more than 2000 votes (and the closing of the polls), the majority vote had gotten it EXACTLY BACKWARDS. The majority thought that each AI painting was real, and that each real painting was AI. Here are the true answers. Why did Twitter get it so wrong? Well...

I asked Twitter if they/you could tell which of these still lifes were made by AI and which were painted by a 19th-century painter. Here's what happened... 🧵

@caraksha103 When the overhead-storage-is-limited announcements first started we were like, “Wow, what a crazy special situation, wonder why this flight is so full??” But now it’s basically the business model to be in permanent baggage-storage crisis.

@NormalGPolitics @juddr_ @flyfour @Scaramucci He will probably fabricate some “deal” or change in conditions to allow him to back off the threat, but still appear in control. That said, you know how serious narcissism works? Like, they can’t ever back down, give in, admit fault - it’s existential - everything rachets up.

He has backed himself into a corner that is true. I also said his post was bad. And I said he is smart enough to know his post would make people freak out. I didn’t say he was playing 4D chess I personally think his plan will not work of getting Iran to cave based on this threat.

@ryans_dad @signalwrld @GeauxGabrielle Ah yes, part of the Jewish space laser consortium no doubt. At what time mark exactly did she say those words? Bottom line is you seem to not understand what she’s saying.

@GeauxGabrielle @joaquinlife You’re clearly telling us you didn’t bother to listen to her words OR you don’t understand at all what she’s saying. She’s referring to “externalities” - the idea that pollution is not factored in as a cost of business in industry & manufacturing, thus no incentive to reduce.

“Water, soil, and oxygen should not be infinitely accessible. They are assets that should be included in global economic balance sheets.” This is not satire. The World Economic Forum wants to monetise breathing.

@SamanthaTaghoy You misquoted her. All she is talking about is how companies need to stop extracting natural resources as if they are unlimited (and depleting them) and factor in the costs of using them in their accounting. It's the opposite of what you seem to think she is saying.

@SamanthaTaghoy Oh my. 🤦‍♂️This is why social media is so shallow and prone to disinformation. She is talking about “externalities” in economics - that pollution of air, water and soil have not been factored in business cost/revenue calculations. I learned about this in college in the 90s.

This kind of stuff is bleak. I get that we’re in a new era, but we desperately need a new crash course in media literacy, or just a reminder to be remotely discerning. The governor of Texas should not be sharing an obviously fake photo from a slop account.

@UncoolNegated @ElCruzSeb But not common in “targeted strikes” that definitely wasn’t a war and that were supposed to over by now. The point is with a threat of ground troops and the possibility of a POW, this is now very far from what Trump was boasting this would be.

🚨 In 2019, a MIT lecture quietly dropped that changed how the smartest people communicate. Most people still ignore it. It came from Patrick Winston and instead of teaching speaking, he exposed why people fail to be understood. 18M+ views later, it’s still ahead of its time. His core idea was simple: your ideas are like your children. You can’t just present them and expect others to care. You have to shape them, guide them, and make them easy to understand. Raw thoughts don’t land structured ideas do. He also stressed that the first five minutes decide everything. If you don’t clearly explain what you’re saying and why it matters, you lose attention instantly. People don’t wait they switch off. And about humor most speakers get it wrong. Jokes at the start usually fail because trust isn’t built yet. Connection comes first, then personality. His biggest insight? Communication isn’t about what you say it’s about what people actually understand and remember. That’s why this MIT lecture still stands out. Because while everyone is chasing attention… Very few know how to hold it.
