@adastroworld @WanWu70 you can certainly make a persuasive case that they were part of those structures. if you oppose the institutions in question, you will treat the worst in them as at the root and highlight it at every opportunity. if you support them, you will talk about the ideals at its root.

I love the saying that some people are "born American, but in the wrong place," and the vision of America as united not by ethnicity, but by a shared commitment to a national ideal. That is why it is extremely hard for me to see Rashida Tlaib as an American.
TheBlaze@theblaze

Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib: “The political structures that we are surrounded by were built on slavery and genocide and oppression. Look at this room, motherf******. We aren’t going anywhere. Now we’re in Congress and every corner of the United States.”

literally 2.5 months later these guys are starting to look superhuman at computer manipulation it used to crash my browser sometimes, click on the wrong thing, go uh-oh, now it's doing starcraft player APMs x.com/Star_Knight12/…
roon@tszzl

there will this brief era where we can watch our AIs bumble around on the computer clicking things, failing sometimes, taking a ~human amount of time to write code. in the blink of an eye they’ll be manipulating computers far too quickly to monitor

@pli_cachete You should come to MONA in Tasmania someday. I'd rather rub glass in my eyes than suffer through such aggressive antisocial pretension. And yet....

I’m interested in the idea of art that is actively hostile to its audience. Something that is deliberately not satisfying / intentionally makes you miserable or tries to get you to stop consuming it. The game Pathologic sort of works because the jank and tedium and unfairness makes you miserable. You have to be bored and miserable to connect with the endings. The book Sadly, Porn is also like this. There author literally says at the beginning is actively trying to discourage you from reading the book before hitting you with a 20 page long footnote about bizarre sexual habits. What else is like this?

@perrymetzger I disagree, our poorest do not live better than the richest people hundreds of years ago. You can be surrounded by abundance and be locked out of it. That will happen in the years ahead.

@seflapodus You mean like we got because of industrialization? Which resulted in even the poorest members of our society living better than the richest people did a few centuries ago?

If your model of the future of AI is that there will be a literally infinite amount of literally free intelligence available, you're mistaken, and you're probably making bad predictions on that basis. It's reasonable to assume "far more intelligence available" and "far cheaper", it's utterly wrong to assume "free" or "infinite", and the difference between the two is night and day. I have vastly more programming resources available now for hire via AI than I did before, but it still costs money and there's still not an unbounded supply. Some commercial organizations are now spending millions a month on AI model fees, that's not "free". I say this frequently, but I'll repeat it: actually free and cheap are not the same thing. At $20 a ton delivered (about the real price), fill dirt is pretty cheap and you can landscape your garden with it without worrying too much about the price, but if it were literally free delivered, you could fill in the Atlantic on a whim. "Free" and "cheap" are totally different categories.

"Claude Fable" is insane because it appears to be one of the most legitimately dangerous drugs with the potential to gigafry your brain but is exclusively taken by literal turbonormies who unironically want to like "make a personal website" and basically get oneshotted by it.

@IsaacKing314 Just let the bison have his little bonk, get it out of his system. You can see in the video he immediately calmed down after the bonk. The old man probably dusted himself off and took two Advil, he's fine.
